Mother Jones

Mother Jones was a labor activist. She worked with the Knights of Labor and often gave speeches to inspire the workers during strikes. Mother Jones is also known as the miner's angel because she was an active campaigner for the United Mine Workers Union. She is an amazing woman who stood up for all that thought they didn't have a voice in the work they did. I think this is an amazing example of a woman showing me I should stand up for what I believe in even others do not agree.

Women Working During the Civil War

During the Civil War women stepped up to help the men win the war. They worked as nurses, spies, factory workers, helped the homefront, and even fought in the war. Women who worked as a nurse would clean wounds, change dressings, assist with amputations and more. Spies would get information about the other side and report them back to generals. Factory workers rolled bandages, knitted socks, sewed clothing, tents, and flags. Women working on the homefront took over the men's jobs like maintaining the farm. Thanks to these women I can get a good paying job and do my part in providing for my family in the future.

Seneca Falls Convention

During the Anti-slavery convention, two women were told that they could not go in and had to sit quietly in the corner. After this event, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott put together the Seneca Falls Convention to talk about women's rights. More than 300 men and women attended. These women fought for women's rights and inspired me to do the same.
