SD_Hot button issue in SD, especially with the governor. Teachers are upset with perception that schools are not addressing civic education. It is a priority in many schools. Policymakers may have neglected to look at what is actually happening in schools. Recognize that there are many definitions re: what it means to be civic ready. A more useful path may be to review the standards, instead of assuming that the standards are not being taught.
