Coaching must be driven by student goals, then we make the other goals connect so that success is more easily obtained because it is more focused.

It is important that all of these align together to show student mastery. If you don't know the curriculum, you can't help students master a goal even with HQIM material. You need to have a need on why for your coaching goal. A teacher needs to have a goal she wants to help herself grow in teaching. All these together will help a teacher, student, and coach grow.

It’s critical to connect the coaching goal, the teacher’s instructional goal, and the curriculum or content needs because this alignment ensures that coaching is meaningful, focused, and directly tied to student learning. When all three are connected, the support the coach provides helps the teacher improve instruction in a way that matches the standards, content, and skills students need to master. Without this connection, coaching can feel disconnected or superficial—teachers might receive guidance that doesn’t fit their lesson plans or the curriculum, which can limit impact on students. Alignment also allows progress to be measured through both teacher practice and student outcomes, making coaching purposeful, actionable, and more likely to lead to real growth in learning.

It is important to have that connection to ensure appropriate goal setting. The teacher needs to have "control" of their goal to make it meaningful and relevant to their teaching. If lead teachers jump ahead and attempt to set a goal with a teacher before the curriculum/content needs are met, the students might not get the instruction they need to be successful. While coaching goals are cycles, the foundation for movement must be established.

By having all of these aligned, then each action has a measureable outcome on the student and can be tracked with student data. The goal is an impact on student learning, so if these are not all connected then you are ALL spinning your wheels. You are also creating extra work for everyone at each step.

If these areas are all related, focus on student learning can be the priority. Coaching should be student driven, which focuses on where students are and where we want them to go. This is the same for how teachers should plan for their instruction using when following the grade level curriculum/content. If all areas are working together, it will lead to a stronger outcome for students!

The coaching goal, teacher instructional goal, and curriculum needs to be connected because alignment ensures that everyone is working toward the same outcome: improved student learning. When these goals are connected, coaching becomes purposeful and impactful rather than isolated or random. When the teacher clearly understands what they are working to improve, the coach can provide focused and relevant support, and the curriculum remains the foundation guiding instruction. This alignment creates clarity, consistency, and accountability, allowing feedback to be targeted and meaningful. It also helps teachers see how their instructional growth directly supports curriculum expectations and student success, making coaching a collaborative process that is grounded in real classroom needs and measurable outcomes.

It is critical to have a connection between the coaching goal, teacher instructional goal, and curriculum/ content needs. One reason this is so important is the ultimate goal is student success and that will fail to occur if the others are not aligned. Another reason is the work smarter not harder approach. If all 3 of these are aligned the people involved in the task are all moving in the same direction instead of working against each other.

It is critical to have a connection between the coaching goal, teacher instructional goal, and content needs because they build upon each other. In order to have a good coaching goal, you first need to know what the teacher's goal is for their students. What need to they recognize that their students need, and how can they reach that goal with the help of the coach. The coach is not just guessing at what needs to happen but is working with the teacher to "move the students forward" and see actual growth pertaining to the student's needs.
