I can't think how it used to be where you couldn't even vote for what president you want, since you were a woman you couldn't really have a valid opinion. The woman probably couldn't get more education either like going to college normally college gets you a job like being in the medical field or anything that needs further learning. It would also be very hard to be in contact with loved ones and just people in general. While being in the civil war they had to deal with bad weather, sometimes no food, and poor clothing. Since it was so long ago there wasn't any transportation and they all had to fight the war on foot. With all of the weapons I know that it  probably weighed them down and made them get tired quicker.
