I really loved Lucy Hone's TED talk, especially the reminder to ask ourselves, "Is what I'm doing helping or harming me?" I have lost momentum on some of the ways that I care for myself, and this is a really helpful question to ask in those unscheduled moments. I don't always need to be doing the MOST productive thing, but there is some downtime that's restorative and some that's not.

Similar to what Lucy Hone says- Life Happens- my recent mantra has been "It's not going to go away. Just deal with it." This seems to help me be more active in making sure I am choosing fulfilling, meaningful activities that move me forward.

I love the expression 'Toxic positivity.' The article has clear steps to take care of yourself (and avoid TP) When I am having a hard time, I appreciate someone just listening and empathizing, hearing me work out my thoughts or express feelings. After that, I'm usually ready for questions like those in the ascd article- i.e. what can you learn; what is your next milestone? etc.

Being more active in the arts- music, art, dance, theatre, and creativity in all the new technology versions is key for me- even if it's just for myself- doesn't have to be a project or shared...

I feel like after a specific experience that was quite traumatic for me, I can take on anything and survive. So while COVID has been hard and exhausting and nerve wracking, it has not stressed me out as much as some other people. I think one of my resiliency skills is being able to keep things in perspective.
While I have done some self-care I have not been able to do much that was meaningful or helpful. I have gotten very lazy and need to get motivated again. We moved around the world, and have so much going on. I appreciated the article mentioning expats and travel- that is something a lot of people are grieving about. Myself included. Hopefully I can use some of those skills and get myself centered and started.
Thanks
Robin G
