"Authority is constructed and contextual"

You want your source to be accurate, but how can you know?
Accuracy = Authorship or Authority + Objectivity or Bias + Scope + Timeliness + Judgement

You can find out if the author or publishing body is credible by looking them up and seeing what else they may have published. Don't rule out a source just because it is biased; although, it is preferable to have an objective source a biased source will make a different point, just make sure to show both sides of an issue. Scope, depending on your paper you may want the scope of your source to be narrow or broad, just make sure your source suits your research purposes. Timeliness or date of publication is very important in certain fields such as medicine, and less important in other fields such as literature.
If an abstract of your source is available, be sure to read it before making your selection, finally use your own best judgement about non-traditional sources such as TED Talks and blogs.
