The media's representation of family, for example, in TV shows like simpsons and family guy there's a dad, mom, son, daughter, baby(boy or girl), and a dog. And it's like saying this is what a normal family should be or look like. If not then it is not a normal family.

The media represents “normal” as a family with a mom, dad, and children living under the same roof. This reflects the norms/values of society because this is what society considers and wants a family to look like In 21st century, the media has somewhat represented non-traditional family with divorced parents, single parents, etc.

In the past, TV shows usually had a nuclear family. This showed that society back then valued a family with a mom, dad, son, and daughter. In today’s society, many TV shows have families that have same-sex couples or a divorced/widowed parent. This indicated that society today has evolved and changed. We are now more accepting of other types of family and we are reflecting our society more accurately through social media.

Medias representation of family creates the norm that family is a two parent household. The book gives examples of how most American family television represents two parents or a family that started with two and lost one somehow. This causes society to value two parent households superior to single parent households.

The media’s representation of a normal family is a picture perfect family, usually meaning a man and a women happily married with Children usually a boy and girl. Both parents have close bonds with their children, both parents are around in aid for their children. Either both or one parent has a stable job providing for the family. The “normal” family that the media portrays sure have set up standards for future families. Future families are in a way pressured to be of all those things, perfect.

The media’s representation of a “normal” family is like having two parents with their children living together. In those television shows the family have a family hang out and always in a argument. This shows that a normal family isn’t always about happiness all the time but arguments and problem involving too. To put this in the real world, every family does have the same situation too. For example, they have family time but sometimes there is problems.
