I hope everyone is doing great! I miss every student and cannot wait until we can see each other again. Until that wonderful day, we are going to adapt to a new schedule and routine together! I am a teacher because I want to educate students and be there for them through the exciting and tough times that life brings. I know this is not an exciting time and that it is challenging but by working together, WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS! We are going to come out of this situation even better than before. That being said let's get started!

Padlet is going to be where I keep all students and families updated on what we will be learning about and how we are going to learn it. I know that right now times are extremely tough and that we are all still adjusting to doing everyday life at home. I will be posting videos and links to assignments on our Padlet to help keep everyone updated. I will not expect kids to video chat daily for assignments. I understand that parents you are working from home and that you have daily schedules as well. If I plan a live video chat for our class, I will let everyone know and we will work around schedule conflicts.

I will post on here. You can access the videos and assignments, when it is convenient for you. JCPS has set up a website to make it easier for parents and students to access their assignments. I will post that link to the NTI website (when we officially start online learning) onto our Padlet Blog to make sure that you and your child are directed to the correct websites. 
If it works better for your family to have your child complete two days of assignments in one day then please do. For example, if you have your child do Monday and Tuesday's assignments all in one day because Tuesday will be a busy day for work or another child, then feel free to have your child do so. 
The expectation I do have for the assignments is that they do get completed during the week. I do not care what days they are done, as long as all assigned work is complete by Friday of each week. Everyone works better on a schedule, find a schedule that works the best for both you and your student and try your best to stick with it.
I have heard that I will possibly  have to take attendance each day. I do not know what that looks like yet, when I do I will inform you ASAP with how it will be done.

Parents, we will stay in contact through email and the Remind App, just as we have been doing throughout the school year. If you have any questions or want to share what learning or fun activity your student is doing at home,please reach out! I will be checking my email and Remind App daily. I do ask for families to please be patient with me through this experience and I will be patient with you. We are all new to NTI (non traditional learning). I will do my best to keep everyone updated on upcoming news, assignments and more. I am still waiting to learn and hear more from our School Board before I give you a weekly schedule of videos and assignments. The Kindergarten Team will be working together to create assignments for our students! I look forward to sharing more information with you.

I will be adding the link to the NTI website weekly on this blog. Starting next week, you can access the link on here and it will take you to the organizer of assignments that the Kindergarten Team has assigned.  You can also access the assignments from the NTI website. It is your choice of how you want to access the NTI website! I will add a link on the NTI organizer of assignments that will direct you to the blog if I post a video, that way you and your child will not miss it. I will do this for the ones who choose to get the assignments directly through the NTI website and not from the blog. There is no wrong way of how to access the NTI website. Find which way works best for you. I know this is a lot of information and can be confusing. It will begin to make more sense next week as we work through it.

Also, check your email for a letter from Mr. Allain. It is a wonderful letter that helps to explain more of this process.

Sign up for video chats and check ins with Mrs. Fernandez and I. We will be using Google Meet. I would love to check in with every kid once a week. Sign Up Genius will have slots for you to sign up in. I am only adding this week onto the sign up sheet. I will create time slots weekly. This program is wonderful! It assess your child to see what reading strategies he or she needs to review and learn next. It will then have your child work through "episodes". 
Your child needs to complete the placement test and can begin working their way through the episodes.

When you log in, click on your child's name and then the password. The password is the picture of the strawberry and the watermelon. You will select both pictures of the password, and then select the green Go button. This will direct your child to the home screen. On the left, you will see Reading and on the right you will see Headsprout. To find the assessment, select Headsprout. After you select Headsprout, it will direct you to a screen that has a tree house. The tree house says, Headsprout. Click the tree house. This will take your child to the placement assessment.

I know times are busy and you are pulled in many different directions, but please try to send me something daily that your child has completed or by Friday of each week. If you follow the plans for each day, it will be easier for your child to keep their learning steady and easier for me to track participation.

You will need to submit pictures of their writing piece, reading responses (from Tuesday and Thursday), and math practice sheets (also from Tuesday and Thursday).
