The FFA is a national organization that promotes agricultural education in youth across the Untied states. The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. These letters are a part of our history and our heritage that will never change. But FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. For this reason, the name of the organization was updated in 1988 after a vote of national convention delegates to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture.

The FFA is put into 4 categories, National, State, District, and Chapter. District is filled up with different chapters, Chapters are schools who participate in FFA.

Today, the National FFA Organization remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

FFA helps the next generation rise up to meet those challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. So today, they are still the Future Farmers of America. But, we are the Future Biologists, Future Chemists, Future Veterinarians, Future Engineers and Future Entrepreneurs of America, too.

FFA is an organization that hold competitions in many subjects. Through Career and Leadership Development Events, participating FFA members in grades 7 to 12 are challenged to develop critical thinking skills and effective decision-making skills, foster teamwork and promote communication while recognizing the value of ethical competition and individual achievement. With subjects in speaking, quizzes, livestock judging, and stock shows and rodeo, members can grow traits and characteristics in themselves to help in life not just in agriculture.

I feel the best part about this Padlet assignment was getting to go back home and set down with one of my biggest role models in High school, my Ag. teacher Mr. York. See Mr. York and I have been all over the state of Texas from early morning trips to contest, to week trips to State convention. Mr. York pushed me to be the best I could be and wouldn't let my shy away from it. I know if I ever need anything he would be a rock for me to rely on even out of school. He help me find my love for Ag. and help me pursue my career to level I wanted to reach.

Mr. York has been an Ag. teacher for over 20 years and is still teaching in my school. With this experience I would say he's qualified enough to speak about the FFA. I asked him why he thought the FFA promotes Positive Youth Development. He said seeing Freshman coming in scared of high school and not knowing how things worked. They always seemed to find comfort in FFA. It gave them a group to be part of and grow not just in the classroom of Ag but in themselves building skills to use in other parts of their lives.

The theory that matches best with the FFA organization would be the 5 C's. The 5 C's are Competence, Confidence, Connection, Caring/Compassion, and Character. The goal of the FFA matches these 5 C's through educating, connecting, and motivating its students to be drive and passionate about agriculture. If you have never been a state or national FFA convention I would highly recommend going. You would see the 5 C's come alive right in front of you and you will feel the passion in the air.

You see Competence being built in leadership contest, Confidence can be found in the show ring showing off your project, Connection is found as soon as you put on your FFA jacket, Compassion is found in your Ag teachers pushing you to be great, and Character is seen in every FFA member, all you have to do is talk to them and ask what their jacket is about.
