Theme Answer

The most important themes in this book are Blind Obedience and The Importance of Memory.

Firstly, I know that Blind Obedience is one of the themes in the Giver because in the community everyone does what they are told without asking questions. For example in the book they are told what job they have to do without a choice, and the community does not ask any questions about it. I know that Blind Obedience is one of the most important themes in the Giver because no one questions anything. If the people in the community questioned everything, then the book would not make sense. For example, the community would be more of a normal community if they questioned everything.

Secondly, I know that the importance of memory is one of the themes in the Giver because no one remembers anything and look at what happened to the community. The community does not have choice simply because they do not remember what it was like to have choice. The community also seems sad because they do not truly know what true emotions are. I know that the importance of memory is one of the most important themes in the giver because if there was no receiver then there would be no place for jonas in the book and he would just be an ordinary citizen. If there were no memories then that would mean there would be no Giver to tell them not to make bad choices. For example when the elders wanted to produce 4 babies a year the Giver could not have told them about starvation.

Therefore blind obedience and the importance of memory are the most important themes in the Giver because Jonas would be an ordinary person, and they would not remember past mistakes without these two themes.
