For our first Usrah session, we began with a light ta’aruf (introduction) session to get to know one another and build some comfort within the group. It was nice to hear where everyone is from and what we’re studying, it helped set a friendly tone for the rest of our Usrah journey.

We also had a briefing on our upcoming assignments, so we have a clearer idea of what’s expected and how we can contribute as a group. It was helpful to get that early guidance so we can plan ahead and support each other throughout the semester.

The main discussion focused on two important topics: Adab of the Qur'an and

Adab of Seeking Knowledge.

📖 Adab of the Qur’an

We were reminded that reading the Qur’an isn't just a routine. It’s an act of worship that deserves our full attention and respect. Some key etiquettes we covered:

Make sure to be in a state of wudu before reciting.

Start with Ta’awwudh and Bismillah.

Sit in a respectful manner and try to use a raised platform when placing the Qur’an.

Recite calmly and beautifully, not too fast, and with proper pronunciation.

Handle the Qur’an with care, close it when not reading, and don’t place other books on top of it.

Try to connect with the Qur’an daily, even if it's just by looking at its pages.

It was a good reminder that our approach to the Qur’an reflects our love and reverence for the words of Allah.

📚 Adab of Seeking Knowledge

We also touched on how seeking knowledge is a noble act in Islam and should be done with the right intentions and attitude.

We talked about outward manners, like:

Taking notes,

Reviewing and repeating lessons,

Asking questions,

Doing extra reading,

And preparing properly for class.

But just as important are the inward manners, such as:

Having a clear intention (to please Allah),

Setting a defined goal,

Showing respect for knowledge and teachers,

Being consistent, and maintaining good akhlaq throughout the process.

The main takeaway was that both reading the Qur’an and learning are acts of worship that help us get closer to Allah. When done with sincerity and proper adab, they become part of our journey to Paradise.

This week, our Usrah focused on the Hadith Jibril, which explains the foundations of Islam, Iman, Ihsan, and the signs of the Last Day. To make the learning more engaging, we also had a quiz session in groups with a spinning wheel. Each group had to answer questions based on where the wheel landed, and those who couldn’t answer had a fun punishment of singing 🎶.

It was a lively way to revise and remember the important points of the hadith.

🌙 Key Lessons from Hadith Jibril

Islam

Testify that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger.

Perform salah, give zakat, fast in Ramadan, and perform Hajj (if able).

Iman

Believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and Qadar (fate), both good and bad.

Ihsan

Worship Allah as though you see Him; if you cannot see Him, know that He sees you.

Signs of the Hour

A servant giving birth to her master.

The poor and barefooted competing in building tall structures.

🎲 Group Quiz Activity

We divided into groups and picked a leader.

Leaders spun a wheel to select questions.

Each group had to answer questions about Hadith Jibril.

Punishment for wrong answers: Singing in front of everyone.

The activity made learning fun and interactive while reinforcing our understanding of the hadith.

✨ Reflection

This session was both educational and enjoyable. The quiz helped me remember the main teachings of Hadith Jibril in a creative way, and it reminded me that learning about Islam doesn’t always have to be serious, it can also be engaging and fun.

This week, our Usrah continued with the Pillars of Iman: Belief in Rasul & Anbiya’, Belief in the Hereafter, and Belief in Qada’ & Qadar. We learned their meanings, Qur’anic dalil, and the impact of these beliefs on our daily lives. We also presented our posters, and I gained a lot of new knowledge from my friends’ presentations.

One presentation that left a strong impact on me was about cherishing life. The presenter shared her personal experience of losing one of her closest friends, which reminded us that we must value and appreciate life. Death does not come by age but only by the will of Allah.

Our group also presented our poster titled “Are All Bad Endings Really Bad for Us?”. The highlight of our poster was about trusting Allah’s plans in every process of life. I contributed by sharing the point about trusting Allah in love life, as it is something many of us can relate to. Everyone wishes for a happy ending by meeting a wonderful spouse, but sometimes, before reaching that, we may experience heartbreaks or “bad endings.” These experiences are not the end but part of Allah’s greater plan. I also designed the Canva poster to make our presentation look fun, colourful, and easy for our friends to understand.

✨ Key Lessons

Belief in Rasul & Anbiya’

Allah sent prophets to every nation with the same message: worship Allah alone (Tawhid).

All prophets were truthful, trustworthy, and conveyed Allah’s message without change.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger, sent to all mankind and jinn, with special blessings such as syafa’ah (intercession).

Practice: Follow the Prophet’s character—gratitude, patience, humility, kindness, moderation, and equality.

Belief in the Hereafter (Akhirah)

Life in this world will end, and all will be resurrected for judgment (Al-Qiyamah & Al-Hashr).

Deeds will be weighed: the righteous will enter Jannah, the wrongdoers will face Jahannam.

Effects:

Increases love to meet Allah.

Encourages patience in hardship.

Motivates good deeds and accountability.

Practice: Live with the awareness of akhirah → every deed matters.

Belief in Qada’ & Qadar (Divine Decree)

Everything happens according to Allah’s knowledge, writing, will, and creation.

Nothing exists outside His decree.

Benefits: Brings peace of mind, humility, patience, contentment, and trust in Allah.

Practice: Strive, take precautions, then place tawakkul (trust) in Allah’s plan.

🌟 Reflection
This Usrah reminded me that faith in the Pillars of Iman must be reflected in daily life. Believing in Qada’ & Qadar strengthens my trust in Allah’s plan, even when things don’t go the way I expect. The stories and experiences shared by my friends, especially about cherishing life, made me more grateful for every moment and more mindful that life is temporary. Presenting our own poster helped me realize that what feels like a “bad ending” can actually be a blessing in disguise, because Allah always knows what is best for us.

True success lies in living with tawhid, preparing for akhirah, and trusting Allah’s qadr in every situation.

In this week’s Usrah, our naqibah, Sr. Syurfa, shared detailed information about the upcoming Ibadah Camp, giving us a better understanding of its purpose and activities.

After the explanation, we had a fun bonding session through games. The first game was a name guessing game, where we had to remember and point out each other’s names. It was hilarious because many of us couldn’t recall our friends’ names, so we had to repeat them again. The confusion made it even more entertaining, and we laughed so much throughout the game.

Next, we played the Bomb Game. In this game, each of us had to mention a word related to a chosen topic while passing a “bomb” (actually a phone). The game ended when one of our friends couldn’t answer in time and got “bombed,” which made everyone laugh even more.

Finally, before ending our Usrah, we took a group picture, which turned out beautifully and became a sweet memory of the day. 🌸

For this week’s Usrah session, we learned about many new and meaningful topics. Each member took turns reading aloud, and our naqibah guided us by summarizing and explaining the longer paragraphs we discussed. The atmosphere was very supportive when someone made a mistake while reading, we corrected her kindly without laughing. That moment became one of the most memorable parts of the session, showing the spirit of respect and unity among us. Throughout the discussion, we explored the Signs of Judgement Day, and delved deeper into the concepts of Ihsan and Adab, gaining a clearer understanding of how these values shape our character and faith.

⭐ IHSAN (الإحسان)

Doing what is beautiful and establishing perfection in life

Definition: الإحسان أن تعبد الله كأنك تراه، فإن لم تكن تراه فإنه يراك

Hadith Jibril: “Worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, know that He sees you.”

Levels: Islam → Iman → Ihsan

Qur’an: إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالإِحْسَانِ (النحل 90)

⏳ ESCHATOLOGY (علم الآخرة)

The study of the end of the world and the Last Day

Belief in the Hereafter, resurrection, accountability, Paradise & Hell.

Qur’an: أَلاَ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ (البقرة 107)

Importance: Life in this world is incomplete.

As I completed the summaries for each week of Usrah, I realized that I actually have very little knowledge about Islam. Through these sessions, I was pleasantly surprised to learn so many new things. Each Usrah became memorable because of the consistent group of people, which truly felt like coming home to learn with family. It created a sense of comfort, happiness, and excitement to meet again every week and continue learning together.

Every session left me feeling like a new person when I stepped out of the room. I don’t know if others feel the same way, but for me, this feels like the best way to learn about Islam while also building strong bonds with each other. Looking back at my summaries, I realized how much the sharing sessions gave me time to reflect on my daily life and think about how to apply these lessons in practice.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of this Usrah group and to grow together in becoming better Muslims, in shā’ Allāh, both now and in the future. I also want to express my appreciation to our beloved naqibah, Sr. Syurfa, who truly made the Usrah sessions a comfortable and welcoming space for everyone. She guided us with patience, corrected us gently when we made mistakes, and always shared creative ideas whenever we felt clueless or awkward. Because of her, no one ever felt left out, and we all felt encouraged to learn and share openly.

I hope that through this Usrah, I can become a better person in the future, in shā’ Allāh. I also hope to gain more diverse knowledge and create better opportunities for myself to explore the vast world of wisdom that Allah has provided beyond what is already in front of me.

I hope this Usrah will give all of us new perspectives, reminding us that it is not only valuable to learn new things, but also to relearn what we already know. Many of the topics discussed were not completely new to me, but through deeper reflection, I realized that I had only understood them on the surface. This made me aware that I have not fully applied them in my life.

I do not have many words to describe my hopes, but the one thing I truly wish is that Allah will grant me the opportunity to reflect on myself and guide me towards becoming a better person. I know that change will not happen overnight, but what makes this hope meaningful is my trust in the process and my willingness to embrace the journey of becoming a better Muslimah.

I don’t have any complaints or suggestions for improvement during the Usrah sessions. What I can say is that our naqibah, Sr. Syurfa, is truly a wonderful person to meet. She has been a great leader to all of us, yet at the same time, also a good friend. She is very helpful and has made each Usrah session unforgettable for me.

One thing I will always remember is how she loves to randomly pick someone to answer, which sometimes gave me a little panic throughout the session. But it was never in a strict way because even if we made mistakes, she encouraged us to try again and reminded us not to laugh at others. I also remember a moment during a sharing session when some of us were not paying attention. She gently reminded us to respect one another, especially when someone is sharing knowledge. That moment left a strong impression on me, as it connected directly to the topic of adab in daily life.

If there is one small thing I could suggest, it would be for her to know that we truly love and appreciate her presence. I hope she can be more confident when she is with us especially during group photo sessions, AHAHA.

Overall, I am very grateful that she became our naqibah. She has made my Usrah experience in Semester 1 a truly wonderful and unforgettable journey.

This week, our usrah focused on the Acquisition of Ḥikmah (Wisdom).

We learned the meaning of ḥikmah, its connection with ʿibādah, niyyah, and amal, and how it helps shape our character and way of life as Muslims. Before we started learning this topic, our naqibah asked us to introduce ourselves. She also played a short game with us to see if we could remember our friends’ names. In addition, she briefly recapped the topic of ihsan that we learned during our Semester 1 usrah.

🌟 Key Lessons on the Acquisition of Ḥikmah

• Meaning of Ḥikmah

Ḥikmah refers to wisdom, intellect, and the ability to understand the truth and act accordingly.

It is a blend of knowledge and good deeds, rooted in fear and consciousness of Allah.

Practice: Seek knowledge and apply it with sincerity in daily life.

• Ḥikmah and ʿIbādah

Acts of worship help cultivate inner qualities such as humility, sincerity, and devotion.

Through proper ʿibādah, a believer can grow spiritually and gain true wisdom.

Practice: Perform worship with presence of heart and correct intention.

• Role of Niyyah (Intention)

Niyyah determines whether an action is accepted by Allah.

Sincerity, clarity, and consistency are essential in setting the right intention.

Practice: Always purify intention and perform actions solely for Allah’s pleasure.

• Ḥikmah through Amal and Ihsan

Good deeds (amal) reflect faith and benefit both individuals and society.

Ihsan teaches us to worship Allah as if we see Him, knowing He always sees us.

Practice: Apply ihsan in actions, character, and interactions with others

🌱 Reflection

This usrah reminded me that ḥikmah is not gained through knowledge alone, but through sincere worship, correct intention, and consistent good deeds.

This week, our usrah focused on the topic:
Reasons and Sources of Ḥikmah from ʿIbādah.

We learned how acts of worship such as prayer, fasting, zakat, and hajj are sources of wisdom that help shape our character and guide our way of life as Muslims. Our naqibah conducted this usrah session online because of the bad weather, as the rain kept pouring non-stop and made it difficult for us to gather and meet in person. Despite that, the session was still enjoyable. Through this usrah, I learned new facts, especially about the distance involved during hajj, which is surprisingly very far. Overall, our naqibah made the session fun and engaging, making it easy for us to understand everything.

🌟 Key Lessons on Ḥikmah from ʿIbādah

• Prayer (Ṣalāh)

Prayer restrains a person from immoral and wrongful actions.

It strengthens the connection between a servant and Allah.

Practice: Perform prayers with focus, sincerity, and consistency.

• Fasting (Ṣawm)

Fasting trains self-control and patience.

It helps believers develop taqwa and consciousness of Allah.

Practice: Control desires and improve character during and after fasting.

• Zakat

Zakat purifies and cleanses one’s wealth.

It encourages generosity and social responsibility.

Practice: Give charity sincerely and care for those in need.

• Hajj

Hajj represents total submission and devotion to Allah.

It prepares believers spiritually for the Hereafter.

Practice: Strengthen patience, humility, and obedience to Allah.

🌱 Reflection

This usrah reminded me that ʿibādah is not only about fulfilling obligations, but also about acquiring ḥikmah that shapes our character.

Topic: Preparation of Salah with Khushu’

This week, our usrah focused on understanding Salah, Wuduk, Tayammum, and the meaning of Khushu’, emphasizing proper preparation to improve the quality of our prayers and strengthen our connection with Allah. Although this topic repeats what we have learned since elementary school, it was still very helpful to recall each aspect. Not only did it help us remember, but it also allowed us to revise our knowledge and relearn new meanings from the topic. During this usrah session, we also played a small quiz, which was very fun. Through the quiz, it helped create beautiful memories together and made the session more engaging and memorable.

🌼 Key Lessons from Preparation of Salah with Khushu’

• Salah

Conditions of Obligation: Islam, sanity, and maturity.

Conditions of Validity: Purity from hadas and najis, covering aurah, certainty of time, facing qiblah, and knowing how to pray.

Pillars of Salah: Niyyah, standing (if able), takbiratul ihram, al-Fatihah, ruku’, i’tidal, sujud, sitting between sujuds, final tahiyat, selawat, salam, and performing in order.

Invalidators: Talking, excessive movement, uncovered aurah, eating or drinking, hadas before salam, changing intention.

Sunnah Acts: Doa iftitah, looking at place of sujud, tasbih in ruku’ and sujud, du’a before salam, and maintaining khushu’.

Practice: Perform Salah with knowledge and awareness, not haste.

• Wuduk

Pillars: Niyyah, washing face, arms, wiping head, washing feet, and order.

Conditions of Validity: Using pure water, no barriers on limbs, and being free from haid or nifas.

Nullifiers: Anything exiting front/back passage, deep sleep, loss of mind, touching non-mahram (discussion), touching private parts.

Sunnah Acts: Basmalah, conserving water, doa after wuduk, washing limbs three times.

Practice: Perfect wuduk as a spiritual and physical preparation for prayer.

• Tayammum

Reason: Inability or harm in using water.

Pillars: Niyyah, wiping face and hands with clean earth, order.

Practice: Understand tayammum as Allah’s mercy and ease.

• Khushu’

Meaning: Focus, humility, calmness, understanding recitations, and awareness of standing before Allah.

Barriers: Was-was and attachment to worldly matters.

Ways to Attain Khushu’:

Pray on time

Prepare mentally and physically

Understand meanings of recitations

Pray in a calm, distraction-free place

Avoid praying while hungry, sleepy, or uncomfortable

Reduce unnecessary movements

Practice: Treat every prayer as a private conversation with Allah.

🌸 Reflection

This usrah reminded me that khushu’ does not begin at takbir, but from how I prepare my heart, body, and mind before prayer.

This week, our Usrah focused on Fasting & Its Virtues.

<sub>
We learned its meaning and purpose, as well as how it helps us grow closer to Allah by developing taqwa, patience, and mercy. Our naqibah explained every detail step by step, which made the session very easy to understand. Although the topic was not unfamiliar to us, her explanation added more depth to our understanding. The best part after the usrah was, of course, taking pictures together with our usrah family. This time, everyone participated in the usrah session, alhamdulillah.

🌟 Key Lessons from Fasting

• The Ayah on Fasting

Fasting is prescribed for believers as it was for those before us.

The purpose of fasting is to develop taqwa (mindfulness of Allah).

Taqwa means being careful to avoid what displeases Allah.

Practice: Control desires, be mindful of Allah, and improve daily behaviour.

• True Meaning of Fasting

Fasting is not only avoiding food and drink.

We must also avoid lying, bad conduct, and sins.

Good character is an important part of fasting.

Practice: Guard our tongue, actions, and manners.

• Virtues of Fasting

Sabr (Patience) & Self-Restraint

Patience in obeying Allah.

Patience in staying away from sins.

Patience during trials and challenges.

Levels of Fasting (Imam Al-Ghazali):

Minimum: Refrain from eating, drinking, and desires.

Intermediary: Protect eyes, tongue, ears, and hands from sin.

Optimal: Guard the heart from distractions away from Allah.

Practice: Try to reach higher levels of fasting by improving both actions and heart.

• Rahmah (Mercy & Empathy)

Fasting helps us feel the struggles of others.

Encourages sharing food and helping those who fast.

Feeding someone who is fasting gives equal reward.

Practice: Show kindness, help others, and share meals.

🌼 Reflection

This session reminded me that fasting is not just about hunger, but about improving my character and strengthening my relationship with Allah.
USRAH WEEK 6 SUMMARY

This week, our usrah focused on the virtues of Zakah and Sadaqah.

We learned the meaning of zakah, its purpose, and how it plays an important role in shaping both our spiritual and social lives as Muslims. Our naqibah also highlighted the importance of sadaqah for the Palestinian people, the Sudanese people, and others in countries that have been severely affected by hardship. She addressed a question that is often asked: “Why do we help people in other countries when there are still many poor people in our own country?”

Her answer was truly remarkable and left a deep impact on my heart. She explained that while it is true that there are people in need in our own country, we can clearly see and compare who is facing greater suffering and more urgent hardship. This made me reflect more deeply and become more aware of the responsibility we have to care about what is happening in the world around us.

🌟 Key Lessons from Zakah and Sadaqah

• Meaning of Zakah

Linguistically, zakah means growth, purification, and blessing.

Technically, it refers to a compulsory act of worship involving wealth, given to specific recipients.

Zakah shows that ibadah in Islam includes spiritual, social, and material aspects.

• Zakah as a Pillar of Islam

Zakah is the third pillar of Islam after shahadah and salah.

It is often mentioned together with prayer in the Qur’an, showing its importance.

It purifies wealth and strengthens social responsibility among Muslims.

• Virtue of Tawakkul (Reliance on Allah)

Giving zakah teaches Muslims to rely on Allah SWT rather than their wealth.

It reflects trust in Allah’s promise that He will replace and multiply what is given sincerely.

• Virtue of Ukhuwwah (Brotherhood)

Zakah strengthens the bond of brotherhood among Muslims.

It reduces selfishness and encourages care, empathy, and unity within the community.

It connects our relationship with Allah (vertical) and with others (horizontal).

🌼 Reflection
This usrah reminded me that zakah is not just an obligation, but a means to purify the heart and build a caring society. By practising zakah and sadaqah sincerely, I learn to rely more on Allah SWT, detach myself from materialism, and strengthen my sense of responsibility towards others. Through this, I can grow closer to Allah and contribute to the well-being of the ummah.

Zakah purifies our wealth, strengthens our faith, and unites our hearts as one ummah.

This is our usrah group video presentation on “Why We Need to Be Khusyu’.” In this presentation, we highlighted several reasons why khusyu’ is important and related each point to relevant Qur’anic verses. My contribution to this video presentation was writing some of the key points for the reasoning slide, as well as adding pictures and background music to make the presentation more engaging and enjoyable.

For this semester, I hope to continue improving myself through all the topics discussed in usrah. I do not have any specific wishes or complaints regarding this usrah session. Based on my experience in Semester 1, I truly believe that usrah is one of the best platforms for us to get to know one another and to share knowledge, especially on Islamic topics.

Some of the topics in usrah for Semester 2 may be repeated for others, but for me, it serves as a meaningful opportunity to revise and gain a deeper understanding of them. I am not saying that by attending usrah this semester I will instantly become a better person, but through usrah, I am able to continuously strengthen my understanding. Through this process, I hope to gradually create a path that leads me to become a better person and to confidently share the knowledge I gain with others, insyaAllah.

REFLECTION FOR ME (★‿★)

In every usrah session, I am able to reflect on my daily routine and life experiences. This semester, the topics discussed truly surprised me. Even though they are topics we have learned since childhood, it never crossed my mind that I could look back at my own actions through that knowledge and revise them together during Usrah Semester 2. It has been a wonderful experience to listen to and engage in discussions from many different perspectives.

Usrah not only improves my communication skills but also allows me to express myself more confidently. It has also become a platform for me to learn new things. I would like to emphasise the phrase “new things” because our naqibah is truly an amazing person who shares valuable knowledge and insightful ideas. Through her explanations, I realised that I had limited my understanding to only a small exposure to these topics during my childhood.

The first topic discussed in usrah left a deep and lasting impact on my life, which is the acquisition of ḥikmah. It made me realise that everything that has happened and will happen in the future is part of Allah’s plan. As human beings, we should remain patient and learn gradually, while using a sharp and thoughtful mind to understand the ḥikmah behind every moment in our lives.

Lastly, although this is a reflection, I would like to express my appreciation to my naqibah, Sr Qistina. She has always helped us understand every detail clearly and consistently greeted us with a warm smile. Her personality and teaching style make it much easier for us to absorb new knowledge, and they have undoubtedly created a meaningful and memorable experience for us throughout Usrah Semester 2.
