Since we have this blog, I guess it would be good to use it. I do encourage other people to write on it or else I’ll be quite embarrassed for being the only one putting out deep talk.

I have been feeling quite lonely. Not because I am alone, but because everything just feels distant. My birthday is coming up and that nostalgic type of feeling is resurfacing from the drawer where I’ve kept it all along. My birthday reminds me of everything that has happened since I was born. It makes me feel retrospective, I believe.

We, as humans, do not get a life of one hundred percent positive experiences. If that was the case, we would be foolish. For ones, death is the bad percentage. For others, love. And even failed dreams. Horrible experiences seem to start coming from amazing expectations, and suddenly, we shut ourselves to fit in.

Personally, love is that specific emotion that makes me overthink on my birthday. Romantic love, I say. Not exactly love, but the absence of it. Passion is all around us. Some can share it, others cannot.

What I am trying to say is: I have been feeling quite lonely for the sixteen times I have felt I wasn’t enough, or I was unwanted, or I was impossible to love.

‘Cause guess what? Love is not a right. It is not guaranteed. And what do I do if my outmost desire isn’t certain?

Blow the candles waiting for another year to pass by.

I don't really know how to start this post. I wanted to talk about what I want my future to be like. Talking about how many children I want to have, where I want to live and with whom, but honestly now I dont have that desire. In the space of 2 years, a war began in Eurasia, something that destroyed me. I never thought that this kind of thing would happen again after so many times. Something I've always been told is that history is cyclical, and I've never heard such an absolute truth. Nowadays, I don't even know if I want to leave children in this world, I'm afraid that they will suffer directly from the things I see on television. When the war in Gaza started, it also reminded me that perhaps not even I will escape these atrocities. The universal charter of human rights has lost immense value since then.

And even though I'm currently living well, I'm anxious and very disappointed.

Rita Santos

Today was a super interesting day, but at the same time a little strange. At school we did an activity in which we had to recite our speeches within the scope of the portuguese subject. What we didn't know was that the auditorium would be full, very full. But as it happened, I wasn't nervous, I was so peaceful and proud of my work and my colleague that I didn't even shake my leg like I usually do. This is because it was something that already comes naturally to me, and I actually like it. However, it made me think that I've reached a point where these types of activities don't make me nervous, but rather the future. I'm very nervous about school, particularly about the geography exam that I'm going to have this year. Furthermore, I'm afraid of lowering my average, as this could affect my future. The conclusion I saw from this is that my anxiety is no longer at school, but outside of it, at home when I'm studying, I find myself banging my knee on the table because I'm shaking so much. I don't sleep well, only about 4 hours. I don't rest. I don't do what I like. And I'm not happy. But that's it, it is what it is.

I always start my diary with this title; I never know what I’m going to write, I just let the pen lead the way, that’s exactly what I’ll do.

I’m seated here, my heart is racing, I’m feeling every feeling. I’m not sure what to say, how to feel neither what to do.

We live our lives in a constant rollercoaster- we never stop, we’re always moving.

If you ask me to describe something, I will do it effortlessly. In the other hand, if you ask me to speak about what I’m feeling or what live is, I don’t know what to say.

I can’t tell you that you will always know what your doing, or what live means, but I can ensure you that with time everything starts to make sense. You just need to wait.

I believe that everything happens for a reason, therefore nothing is a waste of time, everything has some kind of purpose, that we may not see in the beginning but with patience and most of all hope, everything leads to somewhere.

I hope one day you understand that part of living is failing, trying, crying, and finding, we never know everything, never.

Kisses 💗

I'm going to share a frequent thought of mine that I never shared with anyone, which I think is actually helpful and important. I know many people in this class, myself included, struggle with body image and lack self confidence, and I found a way to not struggle with that: not looking at mirrors. I know this might seem dumb, but trust me, for me it has helped a lot. This summer, I spent two weeks in a beach apartment in Spain that only had tree small mirrors, where I could only see from my face to my waist. My biggest insecurity, that's below my waist, was barely visible and I did not spend time looking at it, checking my flaws and hating myself, which I used to do in every big mirror I'd see. So, I hope this doesn't seem stupid but what I mean is: If you have the need to constantly look at mirrors to check your insecurities, stop reaching to mirrors. I promise you'll feel happier and less worried. Get rid of those mirrors. I lived two weeks without knowing how my full outfit and body looked like and, really, I felt free from the insecurities that were keeping me from being happy.

Fighting body image issues is really hard and hearing ''You're beautiful'' or ''You're not fat'' from others is not enough when the problem is in our heads. I hope this helps anyone and I encourage you to try this. It gets better <3

Joana :)

-Most people, when asked what they'd do if they were rich, say they'd buy a new house, a new car, a new closet, donate to charity, among other things that would satisfy them. That's valid and understandable, I'd probably do the same if I won Euromilhões. However, why does no one talk about the need of having a personal massagist? If I were rich, I'd a 100% contract a personal massagist, because, you know... stress :)) Also, massages are kinda expensive for a single session, so having a full-time massagist would fully satisfy me. Sometimes I'm not even stressed, I just want a good, relaxing massage. I love massages, if you can't tell :) They make me feel really well, in an unreal way, I can't explain it. It's like therapy, but with both physical and mental aspects. It's like being transported to a new dimension out of this world.

You can say like, why don't you ask someone you love to give you massages? No, it does not work like that. I need a professional that won't get tired. Massages are so good, yet so expensive, so if I had a lot of money, my priority would be contracting a full-time massagist.

Joana

“Teaching” is such a simple word for one of the most complex and tiring jobs as being a teacher. We [school community] often pretend that there is not a life beyond school – like we exist to be closed in a classroom for one hundred minutes just smiling and learning happily ever after. However, school is a perfect reflection of how society works. There are plenty of situations where chaos, happiness, opportunities to help each other, stress and sadness install. Thus, we no longer must consider being a teacher just as being a teacher, but as a “dystopian type society’s simulations gamemaster”.

Directly speaking to you, teacher Joana, with no doubt you will make a truly important contribution for future generations to come. You’ll rock that gamemaster position. I am certain of that because you already have done it in our class: giving us freedom to think, talk and be ourselves.

I have the outmost pleasure to thank you for your kindness and share of knowledge. “You have truly been a friend.” – as Audrey Hepburn once said. I wish you the most fulfilling journey and strength. “[…] The great teacher inspires.” – according to William Arthur Ward (enough quotes), and I can guarantee you have inspired me.

Thank you for everything!

I know that my message will probably be extremely cheesy and cliché, but having you as a teacher was the best thing ever. I’m so happy that I got to be a part of your first time teaching, and even prouder of thinking that in one or two years' time you will be teaching many kids and adolescents just like us.

I don’t wish to have children, at least not for now, but if I do, I want you to be their teacher. You taught me so much… you have no idea!

For me, the art of teaching is much more than telling students what to do, what not to do, or what something means. For me, it is about caring, teaching (of course), listening, telling, and leading by example; you did exactly that.

I mean, we are all a bit crazy, at least I know I am, and you just cast a spell on us and made us better. Actually, you did something even bigger; you helped us reach our potential.

I will never be able to put into words all that you did for me. I just want you to know that you made everything easier and better.

School can sometimes be too much, and when I felt overwhelmed, you were the first to ask if everything was okay. You didn’t have to do that, but you did. And that meant so much to me.

You probably noticed that the title of my not-so-little message is “To the Stars”.

And I know what you’re thinking: such a cliché, but I mean it.

You can reach all you want, and I believe that not even the stars are impossible.

Thank you for being there.

Thank you for teaching us.

Thank you for caring.

Thank you for being you.

And most of all thank you for all you did that you think that we didn’t notice, we did.

Kisses and goodbye, for now.

Mariana de Oliveira Pereira
