This year, many of my newcomers have been unsure what’s going to happen on field trips to places like the science center or a farm.

I like the idea of filling a sensory bin with pictures or models of what they might see or experience on the trip. When they return, we could use the same sensory bin to write personal narrative about their experience.

Students can choose one letter/sound match and write two words for the sounds.

- Have students identify what weather is their favorite, have pictures and textures that could represent vocabulary (eg. cotton for clouds)

• You can also expand each day, including pictures of activities you can do in each weather they have talked about (eg. a picture of a kid playing outside in a sunny day)

Language skill: identifying rhyming words and using them in sentences.

-Place pictures and/or words that rhyme in two containers for students to find and match.

-Clap out syllables in the words.

-Review the meaning of the words.

-Use the words in a sentence.

-have multiplication problems in the sensory bin. And have a placemat with answer options, or you can have them record answerson an answer sheet.

-this can be used with holiday or theme based sensory items in the bin.

-use any theme related to grade level content of holiday with multiple items that are different sizes, shapes, textures, colors, etc

-students choose an item and identify the noun and adjective of each item

Have a bucket with the pictures of the verbs in their base form. Then have students match them with their past tense and use them in a sentence

Get a bin put the Math symbols, +×÷=-

Have another bin with words that relate to the symbol

Limit the words by grade level, the older they are the more words they'll have

Student will get a paper that will have a few examples and they'll match the word to the example.

-This bin can be used to develop descriptive words for different textures.

-Possible items: sandpaper, feather, rocks (both smooth and rough), etc

-Students will feel the items and come up with the descriptive word. Create a list of these words.

-Model writing sentences and then allow students to write sentences using different objects with the same texture words already listed.

Day 1: Have students review verbs. Match pictures with words and act up the verb.

Day 2: Discuss present verbs and match the pictures to the ing ending.

Compare and Contrast (Animals: Compare two different types of ocean animals, such as sharks vs. dolphins, or squid vs. octopus)

Print pictures or bring artifacts of the cultural holidays. Words or sentences describing the pictures and artifacts can be printed to make it into a scavenger hunt.
