With the Navy Seals being the top part of the US Military they have to have top notch partners. The number one type of dog used by the seals is the Belgian Malinois these dogs look just like a German Shepherd but slimmed down. The way selection goes is the trainer tries to find a puppy that is energetic, controllable, and has a drive to do work.

Training

Training for the puppies isn't easy. On their first day they will learn how to track a scent such as a treat or dog toy that is hidden behind or under something and they get rewarded every time they find it. And over time it gets harder to find. This helps to build up the dogs drive to search. Along with this the dogs endure long days on obstacle courses in the sun to build up their stamina, they also are brought around loud vehicles, gun ranges, and explosive practices to learn to not be scared by these noises. This relates back to the memoir because from there on training only gets harder.

The next stage of Training

During the next stage of training when the dogs are a bit older they start bite training and during bite training a person dresses up in a bite suit that'll keep them safe. During this dogs learn more commands and learn how to take down someone. Also during this stage dogs will go on helicopter rides, go parachuting and repelling down a cliff with their handler. Finally they will start learning the scents of real explosives and learn to track mock versions of things they'll find in the field. This relates back to the memoir because from the training only gets harder and will test the dogs but in the end the seals will know they are the best of the best.

When out in the field these Dogs will counter endless days and weeks in the sun, which will test their stamina. They will also encounter many shootouts and explosions but with the help of there training they will make it through no problem. Not everything is bad for these dogs during down time they sleep, play fetch, and eat with there handlers which shows trust. This relates back to the memoir because when out in the field not every day is the same because one day a dog could be hunting down explosives then the next day caught in a firefight.
