Boston, MA: Pearson.]]> 2017-01-22 19:11:58 UTC https://padlet.com/lipford93/mmwpoyhlh0sk/wish/148588083 lipford93 https://padlet.com/lipford93/mmwpoyhlh0sk/wish/148588481 In today's society there have been several steps taken to dissolve the definitions of women's educational and personal roles in the school and the community that existed during Wollstonecraft's time.  In contemporary education, women are given the same roles and responsibilites as men and are able to receive the same free public education, opportunities and advances as their male counterparts.  You find females holding the position of principal, professor and CEO rather than just wife and caregiver.  Women are able to further their education through college, join the military and run multi-million dollar companies.  It may be true that in some areas and by some people, women are still viewed as inferior to men, however, this is no longer the majority opinion and women are making strides to show their worth in the school, office and government.  It is refreshing to see women empowering themselves through eucation.  Within my school division there are several women who have broken down the barrier and proven that women can hold positions in the school system other than just the educator.  Several of the chair members on the school board are women as well as the chief academic officer for the county.  My school, as well as many throughout the county are lead by female principals and assistant principals.  These women are proving that females are capable of being more than just caregivers but they are also successful administrators and leaders. ]]> 2017-01-22 19:18:37 UTC https://padlet.com/lipford93/mmwpoyhlh0sk/wish/148588481 lipford93 https://padlet.com/lipford93/mmwpoyhlh0sk/wish/148589778 Brown vs. The Board of Education allowed for the segregation of schools to be terminated.  It became unconstitutional for seperate schools to be enforced for african americans and whites.  This supreme court decision stands strong today.  All public schools in our country are for students of any race or ethnicity.  Du Bois was an advocate for equal rights for all peoples and his vision is being implemented today.  Not only are students receiving equal rights of inclusion in schools, but also in the roles they play in the school.  From the general classroom to the various school sports and performing arts,  as well as leadership roles, students in public school today are given the same opportunities to succeed and expand their knowledge and abilites.  I have a classroom of 19 diverse students, however, I have no students that are of the caucasian race.  Within my school population, hispanic is the majority ethnicity and caucasian the minority.  I have found that you find this type of school population more often in the title one schools, than others.  Therefore, it seems that yes, public schools are no longer segregated based on race, however, the more impoverished schools tend to be those that are heavily populated with hispanic and african american students. ]]> 2017-01-22 19:40:51 UTC https://padlet.com/lipford93/mmwpoyhlh0sk/wish/148589778 lipford93 https://padlet.com/lipford93/mmwpoyhlh0sk/wish/148601732 She lobbied for the enactment of compulsory school attendance regulations and laws restriciting child labor.
