This resource confirmed my understanding that the Cold war broke out because of marshall plan deepening the divide between the US and USSR, causing tensions between both of them, as the resource highlighted that “The weaknesses of the Marshall Plan is that it deepened the divide between the US and USSR and the amount of money spent. The marshall plan was offered Eastern Europe, which was under USSR control was rejected by the USSR. It also promoted non-communism to western Europe to stop the spread of communism , which caused clashes of ideologies between capitalist US and communist USSR.”

The US was willing to spend billions just to end communism in Eastern Europe and to lower the chances of the USSR invading them. The USSR also came up with plans to resist the Western influence and to ensure that communist ideas were spread, uniting communist factions against Western influences

This resource shows that the relationship between the US and the USSR post WW2 was much more complicated - that both nations came to a compromise on many parts regarding the futures of Germany and Poland. However, it is rather clear that the US had much more power regarding European reformation, as the resource showed that both Germany and Poland were both redeveloped the "democratic" way. Not to mention, the smaller struggling nations did not have much of a say regarding their own government. Peace settlements were still unresolved and this, along with all that is mentioned above, were one of the causes leading to the eventual Cold War.

The resource confirmed my understanding that the cold war was caused partly by disagreements between the Usssr and the Usa, the countries had agreed to compromise and follow certain guidelines laid by either party but did not follow through. For example : America wanted a demilitraization not only of post war germany but of the entirety of europe to reduce risk of war breaking out again. However the soviets refued to adhere to the guidelines placed. This definitely fueled a mistrust between the powers which contributed to the outbreak of the cold war. As such I can infer that despite negotiations, soviet refusal to adhere to compromised terms let to a breakdown of trust which contributed to the Cold War beginning.

This resource made me think that of why the cold war broke out in an entirely new way as the suspicions of each other could play a bigger part in leading to the war than I thought. The US and USSR were already on poor terms due to their conflicting ideology, and since they had been allies during the war, the parties were aware of the other's military prowess and was cautious and weary of their plans. Particularly the US, was concerned that the USSR could pose a threat to their capitalist system with the spread of communist influence in Europe

However, this source further challenges my understanding by showing how the need for security and safety in the USSR led them to be more cautious which made the US believed that they wanted to expand and become like the Nazis. This shows that their perception and feelings they had towards each other plays a big role in how they reacted to each other which had a big influence to the start of the cold war
