For me, growing up in a very small town with a high school with under 800 kids, it was fairly easy to make friends and learn how to be social within a small community. Now, living in Oshawa, a way more populated city, it has been more difficult for me to kind of step out of my shell and make new friends. But it has been nothing short of my expectations and within time, everything becomes easier. Sports had a huge impact on me learning how to become a respectful young man in my community. I grew up (and still do) playing hockey, baseball and golf. Baseball and hockey taught me the values of being on a team, helping others out and doing what is necessary to get the job done. Playing golf has taught me more about myself than anything because it is mostly a solo sport. It has taught me many things with the biggest one being respect. I know myself personally, I have learned a lot from my friends and my parents friends. I found most of my friends through sports as I am more of a studious person at school. Although my school was so small it had so much benefits because of the size. Teachers got to spend more time with each student as our classes were never above 20 students, our entire class was always friends since we all lived relatively very close to each other and we had a very laid back staff as most of us are from the country so we kind of had the street and outdoor smarts that most city kids do not.
