Hello! My name is Susy Seo (as you can tell from the header), and I am a first year undeclared student. I was born in Monterrey, Mexico - however, I am Korean, as my parents are from South Korea. After living in Mexico for five years, I moved to McAllen, Texas, and lived there throughout kindergarten to high school. I am very passionate about fashion, art and rap/R&B music. I want to pursue fashion design in the future and make a name for myself in the industry. As I'm attending classes at UT, I hope to learn more about other students from different cultural backgrounds, as well as gain insight as to how they view the world from their perspectives. I also wish to learn more about Latin America as I'm only a little familiar with some of the issues occurring in certain Latin American countries. Hopefully I will leave this class with better understanding of the world around me.

Because McDonalds is an American fast food chain and one of the biggest franchises known to man, you would assume that the menu is the same in every country - but no. Each country still manages to add its own flair and taste to suit the needs/wants of its customers. Japan's McDonalds menu has its own unique flavors to please the Japanese demographic.

The speed limit is a perfect example of universalism- everyone must abide by the law and typically (and hopefully) most people will follow the speed limit. Not only does this law treat everyone fairly, but no person is 'above the law,' so no class is excluded from following this speed limit. Speeding is also fairly common, but still looked down upon because one can risk lives by doing so.

Although many modern Koreans do not dress in white to funerals anymore, it used to be common tradition to wear white to funerals. The color white closely symbolizes grief, which is why white chrysanthemums are normally seen in Korean funerals. From an outsider's perspective, this may be perceived as an unusual tradition (especially if the outsider is American). However, Korea has its own symbolism of colors that do not always correlate with America's symbolism of colors.

Even though every person is to be judged fairly in a bodybuilding competition, how does one qualify for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place? Who decides who has a better, more beautiful physique? This would be considered as an exaggeration of universalism, as one cannot truly objectively judge a man's worth based on his physique. Judges may simply choose one contestant over another based on personality, poses, or other factors, which could possibly make the competition unfair.

Banksy, one of the most well known (and controversial) street artists, sends explicit messages through his art of the issues going on in our world. What is shown below is a picture of one of Banksy's installations, in which he purposefully placed stuffed animals in the truck. His art underscores the animal cruelty and the poor conditions animals undergo in factories.

For example, in tennis you can play singles or doubles- for some players, they prefer to play singles because they can only depend on themselves to win points. Textiles covers many different aspects of fashion, such as the chemistry of creating the fibers, to the marketing/advertisement of fashion brands. Textiles is all around us - for example, the fibers that are used on football fields are called astro turf, which is essentially artificial grass that lasts for a very long time.
