In this task, me and my partner Livia were instructed to attempt to improve an object by combining it with something else. We used the closest things to us which happened to be a nike drink bottle and our laptops. As seen above, our idea was to combine the grips from the drink bottle to the sides and bottom of our laptops to ensure they won't slide around on a surface risking damage to them.

Our idea was a design aimed for children to help them sleep at night as seen above. We believe that the 'counting sheep' idea is a creative approach to the task.

In this task our goal was to redesign our partner's lunchtime. After brainstorming possible problems that we have been having at lunch, Livia decided that her number one issue was that she didn’t have enough time to eat her lunch. My goal for this task was to come up with a reasonable solution to fix Livia's problem. Our class completed multiple mind maps, interviews and quizzes to come up with the best possible solutions. In the end. The solution I picked for Livia was to create barriers in the hallways. This will not only allow her to get out at lunch quicker but will also prevent the possibility of her getting mixed up from her friends and having to look for them during her valuable eating time. The image above is a rough sketch of what this solution would look like!

This activity focuses each students biggest problem at lunch time, this was Livias:

Lunch experience: Livia

How did you FEEL from the start to the finish of Lunch Time? Record every key event/non-event

When I heard the bell ring for lunchtime, I felt anxious that I needed to go to the oval with someone, then I got anxious about eating my lunch in time before lunchtime ended. I also am sad when I see the muddy patches on the grass. My friends and I cannot sit in my favourite spot. I am also displeased to not see AppleBee, not in the trees or swooping down to eat my food because all the leaves fell off because it is winter. I like the benches, but they are often wet due to the pouring rain. I do not like when my friends and I sit somewhere and people that we know sit within 10 metres of us. Something I do like about lunchtime is when I get yummy Franks food, but then I get miserable when I cannot finish it and leave it in my bag to finish at home, but then I forgot to take it out of my bag so then it became rotten the next day. Then the bell rings and I am anxious to get to class because I am on the other side of the oval and teacher’s tell me off for being late and that is ‘not an excuse!’ and my friends' lockers are not near my locker so I have to go alone. Overall I would only like lunch if we had glass barriers of 3 metres tall so people can walk in straight lines and we can walk normally to places without having to worry about going with people or getting pushed by other people in the hallways and then getting spilt up and also having more time to eat my lunch.

When I heard the bell go for lunch, I felt excited and relieved to go out to the oval with my friends. As we walked out I felt determined to find a bench for us to sit on during lunch. I feel like benches are the most comfortable form of seating at school. After walking around for a few minutes without luck, I became upset due to the realisation that we would probably have to sit on the wet grass for the majority of lunch. I eventually accepted the fact that my friends and I would have to compromise for today and sit on the ground. During the middle of lunch I turned around to see an empty bench behind us, allowing comfortable seating for everyone.

Our top 3 ended up being:

High crime rates in Enfield

Blackouts in Burnside

Graffiti in Glen Osmond

We chose these as we felt they would make for the most interesting video ideas. Each problem had its own research done in order to find the real relevance and urgency of finding a solution. As seen above, the council area, Port Adelaide Enfield crime problem was our number once choice out of all potential issues we could focus on. Therefore, the best choice to focus our spin off project on

This pie chart represents the types of crime in Port Adelaide, allowing us to target a specific problem, gaining more refined ideas and more effective solutions. This chart is a great source of evidence for our final spin off video, providing ample information of Port Adelaide crime rate. As seen in the image, Port Adelaide is ranked 100/100 out of the top criminal suburbs in Adelaide, meaning it is one of the most, if not the most dangerous place in SA. These statistics motivated us to work harder to make the suburb a safer place for all.

I believe we worked immensely well together in all planning, filming and editing aspects of our video. We successfully used the 5 C's as well as certain aspects of all ethos, pathos and logos when working to improve our assignment by adding creative and original aspects which overall improved our grade. We worked not only a group but a team during this assignment, allowing ourselves to thrive in our partnership ultimately leading us to our A+ grade. This spin off project has been a great practice project leading up to our expos in term 4, something I am positive everyone is more prepared for now.

In this activity each group was instructed to present a small pitch to the class referring to their potential solution. I found this activity to be quite uncomfortable at first but eventually becoming easier throughout. The realization that everyone in our class has to present at one point really helped me out and improved my confidence while presenting. This was a great lead up tool to the real spin off presentation even though it was prerecorded. Mr. Mewett gave us some great pointers when it comes to speaking in front of the audience, including maintaining eye contact, projecting your voice across the classroom, eliminating any possible fidgety objects, keeping a strong body language and not rushing your speech.

Our final idea for our spin off project is 'Pace paws patrol'. Pace paws patrol is a neighborhood business found in the suburb of Port Adelaide. Pace paws patrol rescues homeless dogs, trains them and ready's them as a protective companion for the citizens of Enfield. The dogs can be rented for days at a time to loyal members of the community who feel the need to be protected in public and even in their own homes. For tracking purposes, the dogs will be implanted with a chip that tracks their every moves. An app has been created to show the managers of the business as well as the current renters the dogs whereabouts at any time possible.

This approach was great when wanting to get into our customers heads, knowing how they feel and what causes it. The empathy map really helped us out when choosing what information to include in our pitch and expo. The main discovery we made during this mind map was the specific things someone going through revenge sleep procrastination would say. This information helped us greatly when figuring out how to connect to our audience in order to keep them engaged and possibly even relate to our topic.

For our product, we decided to create an app aiming to tackle revenge sleep procrastination. This sleep hygiene app allows people to log their sleep, record their dreams, listen to guided meditations, and listen to music. It also provides educational information on sleep and has a reward system to engage viewers and create an incentive for individuals to continue a ‘streak’ of developing good sleep habits.

Our main source of engagement to keep users occupied while on the app was our streak idea. We believe that giving users a challenge to live up keeps them active and loyal to our brand, rather than switching to another creator. Combining captivating visuals with our verbal information ultimately helped to keep our audience interested and prevented them from wandering off, focusing on other things. Using body language techniques such as projecting voices, eye contact and speaking with our bodies, not just our voices helped us greatly. We tried our best to memorise each of our specific lines but unfortunately still relied on our cue cards, something to think about when trying to improve in the future. This experience highlighted the importance of thorough preparation and practice in delivering a polished presentation. I was quite nervous when I found out we were finalists as I was not really planning to presents again. Luckily, our group already had a pitch ready incase this scenario occurred, helping us out immensely. Unfortunately, we did not end up winning our section and were runner ups. One of the main flaws we had in my opinion was not having memorised our 5 minute pitch for this time.

Over the semester, action project has had a significant effect on my learning experiences. Whether it be brainstorming activities or learning new forms of collaboration and contribution to activities, I believe my learning has been positively affected and provided me with a new skill set ready to help me out in future pathways. The key skills that I have built on are teamwork, problem solving, and decision making. In comparison to previous terms, I am now much more confident in identifying problems and creating multiple solutions, evident in the two main assignments completed in partnership, focusing on specific problems that affect communities and people in general. The partnerships I have worked in throughout the term have allowed me to cooperate with peers better and ensure I am listening to more than one opinion in order to gather the best solution, something crucial when working in a professional environment and collaborating with coworkers. Brainstorming activities helped me when making a specific decision relevant to my projects, allowing me to pick up a more decisive nature, leading to better time management and efficiency. Despite collaboration always being one of the main 5c’s I thrived in, action really allowed my collaborative side to come through and provided time out of my days to focus specifically on my relationships with my peers working on the same projects as me. I found that working together when choosing an idea and/or completing work was far less stressful than managing all the responsibility by myself. This approach not only helped me throughout the Action Project but also alleviated my worries about other subjects. It was relieving to know that if I was on limited time and had multiple assignments to complete, I could rely on another group member to help out and complete any necessary tasks. On top of this, my creativity skills heavily improved when completing my innov8 project. Not only when choosing what to focus on but also in decorative and verbal aspects. I truly enjoyed being able to decorate our stall and create ornaments visible to customers at the expo and felt it gave the subject not only an intellectual aspect, but an artistic aspect too. Skills such as teamwork, problem solving, and decision making, can be applied in various areas of life and future careers. These skills enhance collaboration with colleagues, improve efficiency in tackling challenges and provide better time management. Additionally, the creativity and confidence gained in these fields can be utilised in personal projects, community involvement, and professional settings. While this course was quite enjoyable and relatively easy to get through, I felt quite uncomfortable with speaking to an audience at first. Public speaking is something I have never really been fond of and has always come with a sense of fear. Despite doing multiple pitches during the spin off project, the 5 minute pitch task along with our final expo presentation was a much larger responsibility and ultimately more nerve racking. My group was the main thing that really helped me out during this process and allowed me to go into the task with a more calm approach, knowing that I have help all around me. Overall throughout this course, I have grown significantly as a learner. I have improved my teamwork, problem solving, and decision making skills, making me more confident in addressing complex issues. Collaborative projects have highlighted the value of diverse perspectives and effective communication. Additionally, the presentations and pitches have enhanced my public speaking abilities. Overall, this course has provided me with a wide skill set that will be invaluable in both academic and professional settings.

We ensured that we had our one minute pitch prepared for anyone interested, especially parents and judges. Our stall came out looking great, covered by streamers, posters, food and other décor we placed around the table. We even included a type of prototype, giving the audience a brief idea of what our final product would end up looking like. Our speech flowed well and provided enough information for the audience to be able to ask appropriate questions regarding our product. For the most part, we were able to memorise our whole speech without using cue cards, however, there were certain parts we may have messed up a bit on, allowing space for improvement.
