I say this because if the students don't like you or even respect you, they will not learn in your classroom. Being in a middle school math class is extra hard because students tend to HATE math. Looking back the greatest thing i did to help connect with each and every student is 1) learning their names as fast as possible but 2) caring about their lives outside of the classroom. Maybe because it was I tried to be the kids friends at the start, or that I felt like I was over stepping in the classroom. But seeing my co-teacher handle the behavioral problems and reassuring me I can do the same, really helped me. While she gives me this hug she tells me that I'm her favorite teacher ever. Everyday we talk about what I can do better or what i did great at, She would also give me suggestions on how to improve the lesson for the next class. There was never a time i felt lie my voice wasn't heard either. If I had a suggestion she would actually take it under consideration instead of just shutting me down. For me, i need that.
