The people from Scandanavia built boats that were lighter with had flatter hulls meaning they could travel inland further and quicker even using rivers which meant they could land quicker and helped them launch surprise attacks faster. </div>]]></description>

When cannons were added, the ships became even slower because of the extra weight of the guns.</li><li>There was not much room for sailors to sleep in the ships, and most of the time they were cramped or slept on the deck.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Fishing of cod had started in late 1500s with Jersey men sailig to Canada and fishing for cod.  However, in 1763, the land of Gaspe in Canada was given to the British and soon after Charles Robin set up his fisheries there creating a huge trading  industry.  The cod fishery trade had ceased by the early 1900s but leaves a legacy of Jerseymen in Canada. </div>]]></description>
