Forced or not they would compete in a life or death game to appease the rulers by fighting to the death. They would train almost every part of their body to prepare for the games. And after all that training you would be greeted by a nice cold sleep in a prison cell. It mostly consisted of short swords, spears, daggers, claymores and so on. The gladiators were not really allowed to pick their chosen weapon but they were taught how to fight with the weapons. Along with the weapons they were also given armor for battle. The armor was either a really heavy class or a fast moving class. There were tons of combinations and all of them gave different speed, protection, and looks but they were also taught on how to use their armor to their advantage. But enough with that there is a guy with a sword and he wants blood. The gladiators would fight, fight, and fight until a whole tiger appears, but that rarely happens anyway. After you would tire or injure the person enough that they would fall to the floor it was the spectators decision if they wanted the gladiator to die by either chanting or giving a hand symbol. Yes, some gladiator fights weren't always to the death. Lets say you chopped the poor man's head off thanks to the spectators and now you're a free citizen yay!
