The main character is Deka, the book is set in first-person. All over the world, girls have very strict rules. They are not allowed near sharp objects from when they turn twelve to when they turn sixteen. There are pure girls and un-pure girls, pure girls have red blood and un-pure girls have gold blood. Any un-pure girls are meant to be killed but are taken to training grounds. Deka is found un-pure in the ritual of purity which all girls go through when they turn sixteen. Her town was invaded by deathshrieks, which are monsters with ear-splitting screams that can kill people. Deka discovered that she had more power, she could command the deathshrieks. When many people died fighting them, Deka used her voice to drive the deathshrieks away. But when she uses her voice, she uses all her energy and her eyes turn black. Deka was taken to a cellar where she was bled. Un-pure girls are called alaki, and they can regenerate and heal during the Gilded Sleep, which happens when they are injured, they go to sleep for hours at a time and heal. Eventually, Deka was saved by White Hands and taken to Warthu Bera, a training ground for the strongest and fastest alaki. There, Deka met many other alaki and befriended them. She found out that she was the strongest and fastest alaki there. She and her new friends eventually started training with White Hands. Deka started to go on raids and fight the deathshrieks, as that was why they were trained. She found a temple where there was a small pond, from that pond emerged a blue dragon-like creature that could shapeshift and be in the form of any animal it wanted. Deka names the creature Ixa and took it with her everywhere. Soon after that, she started understanding the deathshrieks. Their language was simply clicking and grunting but Deka new what they were saying, they called her "betrayer". Eventually, she found out that White Hands created Deka and Ixa, and that Deka's mother was only slightly her real mother, she also found out that her mother was a shadow, which is a type of alaki. Deka discovered that when alaki had their final death, they were reborn as deathshrieks. She was also created to kill evil. Eventually, she brought back the godesses and saved everyone.

Rose and Arthur go to high school they visit their granddad and crawl into the bed and teleport to the Land of Roar they meet up with Arthur's friend called win he is a ninja but also a wizard they fly on dragons around the Land of Roar together travel to the place were the lost girls live they all go to the crows nest which is were Crowky the villan of the story lives they walk up the stairs and no one was there win nearly falls of the balcony they go back down the stairs but the lost girls stay once there outside they see the Raven the ship that the scarecrow army and Crowky travels across the bottemless ocean on they ride the dragons over to the ship and one of them lose there heat and drop down they manage to get the dragons heat back with a spell and then Vlad the dragon blasts the ship with fire.

Eva's parents have a family channel on YouTube showing them doing exciting things like trips. Eva is sick of it, she hates being filmed and wants the channel to stop, but her parents just keep making videos and editing out any parts where she says she doesn't want to. Then, a new girl joins Eva's school and rumours almost immediately start spreading, rumours that the new girl got expelled from her old school for hacking. Eva talked to the girl and found out it was true and she had done it more before. Eva got an idea, she asked the new girl if she would help her hack her parents channel, and she agreed. A few nights later, Eva sneaked into the main editing room at around 2AM and started deleting videos, she also wrote the password to the channel on a sticky note to remember it. That morning, she woke up to her parents freaking out that videos had been deleted and the channel had been hacked. But they had back-up videos and could just re-post them. Eva told the new girl about this and they started something new. They deleted more videos, recent ones that would not back be backed up. It worked and the parents panicked. They called the police saying they were hacked. The new girl got caught while Eva was said to be "too innocent" and "in shock" so she "couldn't have done it". She went over to the new girls house a few days later and they cut Eva's hair so it was short. The parents got the hint eventually and shut down the channel, Eva sold a lot of her things and donated the money to charity.
