“In a Major Rift, Pakistan Ramps up Pressure on the Taliban.” United States Institute of Peace, 17 Nov. 2023, www.usip.org/publications/2023/11/major-rift-pakistan-ramps-pressure-taliban.

This article talks about how Pakistan deals with numerous terrorist attacks from the ttp which is supported by the Taliban. Pakistan wants to find ways to stop and lessen the support for the ttp from the Taliban. They think they can do this but putting sanctions on Afghanistan being one of their major trade partners putting pressure on them to stop supporting the TTP. They also did this by rejecting and sending back many Afghani refugees which the Taliban have responded to by telling them to look at the Quran and that bad things will happen to them if they continue doing this. They have thought about supporting rival groups to the Taliban but this is difficult because they support the Taliban earlier making these groups not trusting of Pakistan. They have also thought about using military force and have sent airstrikes in Afghanistan which have worked but they don't know the consequences of doing these actions so they are wary of using them often. The Taliban in response have tried to make greater trade bonds with Iran and the USA. They sent a deputy prime minister to Iran to have trade talks and they have told the Western world, especially the US, that they will discriminate less against women in hopes they will trade with them more. The website is a credible source of information and has opinions from many different people

Javed, Farhat. “Pakistan’s Kalash People Are Afraid for Their Future after Taliban Attack.” BBC News, BBC, 23 Nov. 2023, www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-67498243.

People in a village in Kalash Valley were attacked by the ttp which left them scared and worried about their future. This attack left 5 border guards and 20 TTP militants dead. The village is scared about losing their homes but their unique culture and religion. They are worried that if the TTP or the Taliban take over their village they will be forced to convert to Islam which has happened before but Islamic and Christian groups these conventions are still happening today. The response by Pakistan to this attack was to bring the military in to monitor the area and shut down two border crossings which halted trade and stranded many on both sides leaving people terrified in different countries. These attacks also affect a major source of income which is the tourists who want to experience their unique culture. After the attacks, all tourists were made to evacuate the area, and locals to stay inside. If these attacks keep happening it could cause a major blow to the local economy.
