THE ABYSS

The abyss was finals week. Finals week was the major thing I had been preparing for the whole first semester. I had passed all my classes and then got a fresh start with second semester.

This is an example of 'the abyss' because Finals acted as a 'death and rebirth.' Because not all my final grades were 'A's', they were renewed when I returned for second semester

CALL TO ADVENTURE

My call to adventure was at freshman orientation. Getting tips and help from returning students helped me realize that I was to start high school within the next few weeks. Whether I liked it or not, there was no way to go back.

CROSSING THE THRESHOLD

I crossed the threshold when I entered the school on the first of high school. There was no turning back and I was ready to start the day. I wondered to my classes, listening to all my new teachers talk about the class and meeting with both new and old people.

This is an example of 'crossing the threshold' because it once I had entered the school there was no way to leave and it was the point of no return.

CHALLENGES & TEMPTATIONS

My challenges and temptations during the first semester were, adjusting to the workload, focusing in class, and being tempted to not do my work. Albeit hard, they were just considered small obstacles I had needed to overcome in order for success in the first semester.

This is an example of 'challenges and temptations' because it was something that made me consider giving up and they were things I needed to overcome in order for success.

MULAN'S CALL TO ADVENTURE

Mulan's 'call to adventure' was when Mulan's father got called into war and Mulan believed he was too bad of condition to go.

This is an example of 'call to adventure' because it began Mulan's journey as a hero.

MULAN CROSSES THE THRESHOLD

Mulan crossed the threshold when she goes into the army disguised as a man without telling anyone. She leaves her house at night and wanders into the unknown world by morning.

This is an example of crossing the threshold because when she arrives at her destination, she cannot go back home.

MULAN'S CHALLENGES AND TEMPTATIONS

Mulan's main challenge is to keep her secret of being a woman in a man-infested army. Her temptation is acting like a woman in a place filled with men.

This is an example of 'challenges and temptations' because it's something Mulan has to complete to help her in her journey as a hero

MULAN & THE ABYSS

Mulan's abyss was when she was revealed as a woman and none of the men wanted to accept her.

This is an example of 'the abyss' because she had a figurative death as a man and was revealed as a woman. Although the men did not want to accept her, they later did when she had saved China from the Mongols.
