Identical is written in the alternating viewpoints of twins Kaeleigh and Raeanne showing how very different the two are, and also how their thought sometimes overlap each other. As teenagers, Kaeleigh and Raeanne face many hardships. Their family is broken because of a tragic accident they were involved in. Kay was damaged and could not love anymore, Daddy looked to fill this gap with his 10 year old daughter who reminded him so much of his wife. Along with the alcohol and the drugs, Raymond began to mistake the love he had for his daughter and thus began the sexual abuse.

Kaeleigh: the "good" twin. Kaeleigh is the more tame of the twins. She tries to keep up a good image for her parents, getting good grades in school, and staying out of trouble, for the most part. Kaeleigh is in love with her best friend Ian, but has a hard time letting him in on personal stuff like her father's sexual abuse. Scared of what her father might do to her if she told, Kaeleigh keeps it all in and eventually begins to cut herself.

Raeanne: the other of the twin sisters. Raeanne craves the attention her father gives her twin sister Kaeleigh. Unlike Kaeleigh, Raeanne turns to alcohol, sex, and drugs to deal with her problems. On top of all of her problems, Raeanne deals with bulimia. She also has a coupe of boy toys, Mic and Ty whom she stays faithful to no matter how crappy they treat her.

Raymond(Ray): Father of the twins, Ray is a very strict. He works as a district judge so he comes home late. His wife, Kay, is never home because of her job and Ray doesn't handle that very well. He turns to alcohol and prescription drugs to cope with his pain. But that is the least of his faults, almost every night Ray seeks out his daughter Kaeleigh and sexually abuses her. This dates back to when Ray was once sexually abused as well by a babysitter, which he blames his father for.

Kay: Mother of the twins, Kay is almost never home. As a politician running for congress, Kay travels a lot and everywhere. But that is how she wants it to be; no family, no husband, no children. This doesn't stop her from deceiving the press, making them think they are a very put together, happy family.

A consistent theme in this book that I noticed, was secrets can break you. Throughout the book and the many different point of views and situations, secrets are kept. Immense secrets that aid to the downfall of these characters. Secrets like Raymond’s abuse of her own daughter, Raeanne’s drug addiction, and Kaeleigh’s bulimia. Everyone has something to hide.

Genre: Teen struggles and taboo subjects
