Higher education must face the challenges that arise from new opportunities—especially technological ones—that alter the ways in which knowledge is produced, organized, disseminated, institutionalized, controlled, and accessed. Therefore, educational systems must contribute to the training of a critical mass of qualified and educated individuals who help guarantee authentic, endogenous, ecologically sustainable development—of and for individuals, communities, and nations.
