In the summer of 1994, the Genocide of Tutsis in Rwanda happens. That June Paul Kagmenes, the 6th and current president of Rwanda, Tutsi rebels take power in Rwanda. The Hutus flee to Zaire, former DRC. After that the Rwanda army moves into Eastern Zaire to pursue Hutu fighters. Then, in 1997 Laurent Kabilas AFDL takes power in Kinshasa backed by Rwanda. The following year Rwanda accuses Kabila for not fighting Hutu rebels. These accuzations spark a five year conflict. In 2003 the war was officially over however, Hutu and Tutsi militias continued to fight along the eastern Congo. Six years later in 2009, Rwanda and the DRC agree on a peice deal. Peace was short lived because a new rebel group arose called the M23. M23 is made up of former CNDP fighters.

Problems and solutions of the DRC Today

The DRC contains a great supply of various resources. However, majority of these resources have not benefited them at all. They've been taken or lost them to unfair trade deals. These resources have attracted the wrong crowd and unconditioned leaders, dividing the region. They have little to no usable roads or railways making transportation of goods or people unrealistic in some areas. These struggles are mostly just feeding the struggling economy. As the government gains control of these struggling situations, much of the conflicts are calming down and the country is finding peace in many areas. The country is even having democratic elections.

The ICC has also claimed that the M23 group has been receiving orders from Rwandas chief of defense staff.

The D.R.C. has many different ways that they could improve. They have a huge abundance of resources and the congo river acts as a potential route for them to trade. However, they can not do it themselves.
First off, the country will need someone to step up and help them. I think this is a great opportunity for any country, the United Stated should step up. They have helped a number of countries in simular ways. This would build a new alliance and new trade partner to the US. They could go and help the country retain a stable government.
This could be a big opportunity for whatever country or company that would take advantage of it! It would greatly benefit them and the D.R.C. if done correctly. A company could come in and build a type of mine. This would not only create jobs in the mining industry but also build more industries, building the economy. Not only that, it would also open up trade with other countries, for this country to get supplies and for other countries to ge the resources.
If this happened they could also build companies that restored the raw mined land. This would create more jobs and keep the ecosystem healthy.
These two industries combined could also build another. They will need a source of power. That is where the Congo River comes in. The river has the potential to be a great source of renewable energy to power the D.R.C.

In 2012 the D.R.C. joined the GPE or the Global Partnership for Education. Since then the area has seen an increase in girls in schools and they have received over 20 million textbooks. Also, 33 thousand teachers have received various types of training to improve teaching skills. All of these improvements are important because improving the education of the young people now will make them smarter adults and employees int the future
