All three artists became iconic artists during the time of This is Modern Art (1999), but with Jason Pollock and Pablo Picasso's histories of abuse coming to light, their images have changed. Andy Warhol remains one of the leading forces in NYC art and pop art. Important to note that their stardom has boosted after their death, and their pieces became more expensive post mortem.

But his creativity and striking use of color eventually earned him the notoriety in the art world and gave birth to pop art.
Breaking Convention -- Connecting our Themes

One thing that connects all these artists to our chosen theme was the break from conventions of the art world. All these artists were known as renegades at their time boldly going against the grain of art. Warhol's art wasn't considered art at all, just colorful photographs. Yet people eventually realized his works and he pioneered pop art. Jackson Pollock, also followed this pattern. He was known for unusual methods of painting his pieces. Pollock was known to use sticks, brittle brushes and even spinning paint cans. His unconventional use of traditional tools and art materials helped spur on the abstract movement. Lastly, Picasso who pioneered cubism. He wasn't popular early years because of the uniqueness of his pieces, yet he steadly drew in a following of fans and became one of the most well known cubism artists of all time.

Picasso pioneered cubism and made major contributions to symbolism and surrealism. Even as a painter, his sculpture was was greatly influential and brought new meaning into the cubism we know today. Cubism sought to depict objects from multiple viewpoints, breaking them down into geometric shapes and reassembling them in abstracted form.
