Maddie is a 12 year old girl whose parents are divorced and is constantly switching houses every week. She is very adventurous. Also Maddie gets stressed out a lot with her crazy family and no time to herself. Her two best friends are Emma and Ashanti. The three girls plan to have an ultimate sleepover they trick their parents so that they can go to Maddie's grandparents house with no distractions. When Emma and Ashanti don't show up everything goes wrong.

Ashanti, Emma, and Maddie plan to have a secret sleepover to get away from society. The plan to have it at Maddies grandparent's apartment. Ashanti and Emma can't make it but Maddie still decides to go. In the middle of the night she thinks people are trying to break in, so she hides in the closet and falls asleep. When she wakes, her phone has an emergency alert reporting a threat instructing people to evacuate immediately. Maddie tries to call everyone she knows but it just goes to voicemail. She realizes people are taken to shelters but doesn't know where the shelters are.

This book is so easy to read and very enjoyable. It is novel-in-verse and has 402 pages. I loved this book. It has so many twists and turns and is very mysterious. One thing I would ask the Author is did Maddies friends not come to the sleepover because of the reason they told her or is there another reason. I would also ask how she came up with the idea for Alone.

"I find a spiral notebook and a pen and write a letter to God instead."

I like this quote in the book and think it is very significant because in life we can't do it on our own. I can't imagine was Maddie felt. Her getting this pen and paper reminds me to turn to God in times of trouble.

I rate this book a 5/5 because it is definitely one of my favorite books I have ever read. It is very adventurous and you will never know what is going to happen next.

George is Maddie's companion who helps her through isolation.

Theme

The author believes to "keep your family close in your heart". I say this because before everyone evacuated Maddie wanted to leave her chaos house so bad she lied to her parents. Karma came back to her and while she was alone she realized how much her family meant to her. When she went in neighbors houses to look for supplies she found picture of a student at her school who passed away and she felt really bad for the family.

I chose this quote because it shows the acceptance of her realizing that no one is going to save her anytime soon.
