         <description><![CDATA[<p>Burkholderia helps by <strong>efficiently degrade pollutants in water and soil, fix atmospheric nitrogen, or help plants fight against their pathogens. </strong></p><p>Members of the genus Burkholderia are very abundant, occupying diverse ecological niches (Estrada-de los Santos, 2001; Coenye &amp; Vandamme, 2003), including soil (van Elsas, 2002; Salles et al., 2002, 2004; Janssen et al., 2006) and hospital (Coenye &amp; Vandamme, 2003) environments.</p><p>Burkholderia species have been shown to be a potential source of beneficial products such as <strong>antimicrobials and biosurfactants</strong>. Along with the related genus Pseudomonas, Burkholderia can synthesize a particular class of biosurfactant called rhamnolipids.</p><p>Meanwhile, the organism has been developed as a biopesticide for <strong>protecting crops against fungal diseases</strong> and has potential as a bioremediation agent for breaking down recalcitrant herbicides and pesticides.</p>]]></description>

People use lactic acid for dry skin. It’s a bacterium that produces proteins toxic to certain insects, and it’s widely used in agriculture as a natural pesticide.</p><p><br/></p><p>How It Helps:</p><ol><li><p><strong>In Agriculture</strong>: <em>Bacillus thuringiensis</em> is used to control pests like caterpillars, mosquitoes, and other harmful insects. It works by releasing toxins that disrupt the digestive system of the insect, ultimately killing them. Since it’s specific to insects and doesn't harm humans, animals, or plants, it’s a more environmentally friendly alternative to chemical pesticides.</p></li><li><p><strong>Environmental Benefits</strong>: By using Bt, farmers can reduce their reliance on synthetic chemicals, which can have harmful effects on ecosystems. It helps maintain biodiversity by protecting beneficial insects, like bees, that are vital for pollination.</p></li><li><p><strong>Humans and Animals</strong>: Because the toxin is highly selective and doesn’t affect humans or animals, Bt is considered safe for consumption. In fact, genetically modified crops like Bt cotton and Bt corn have been developed, which are engineered to express the Bt toxin and naturally resist pests, reducing the need for external pesticide applications.</p></li><li><p><strong>Plant Health</strong>: Bt protects plants from pest damage, leading to healthier crops and potentially higher yields, which is especially important for sustainable farming practices.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Where can Bacillus Thuringiensis be found?</strong></p><p><br/></p><p>B.t. is a naturally occurring bacteria that is commonly found in soil and food. B.t. has been used safely for over 30 years to control insects in the United States, Canada, and other parts in the world.
