The Influences I get From Dave Grohl is during his career he can do most things people need others to help with. He’s an amazing drummer, guitarist, singer and is big in the production studio, he influences me to want to get to his level be able to learn all those skills and abilities. He shows me that anyone can do it if you have the heart and persistence to overcome challenges in life and still be a good person and be able to do your best no matter what.

The big influence from John Lee Hooker for me is the high energy he would put into his songs, even when they’re simple as a one chord song. He was a musician who wouldn’t go anywhere without an electric guitar and that’s why he’s one my biggest influences is the energy and passion he would put into his instrument saying that “The sounds you could make! I loved electricity. You barely have to touch the guitar, and the sound comes out so silky. Electric sound is so lovely. I felt drawn to it”(National Endowment for the Arts). He influenced many bands to reinvigorate blues music and adapted to the styles of blues and rock to keep it new and refreshing. He influenced legends like David bowie, Eric Clapton and van Morrison(National Endowment for the Arts).

Robert Hawk was a blues slide guitarist who was classes as a “rambling bluesman” (Jeff Harris, 2023) he would roam over the south playing where he can. During his trips through the south he met other blues musicians including John Lee Hooker and they play together. While John was playing and watching play his music that was like his stepfathers blues style his music is also heavily influenced by the Mississippi Delta region Which Robert was also influenced by and was between 1932 and 1935 (Jeff Harris, 2023).

William Moore is the stepfather of John Lee Hooker and influenced him when John would hear him while around his house and working on his farm and teach him how to play the guitar in his early years on the farm and sparked his passion for it. William was multi-instrumental and incorporated East coast blues or Piedmont blues style having different sounds to his country blues influencing John to fuse different genres together (William Moore).

Bernard “bennie” was a local record distributor who helped John write and release his songs in 1948 (Bernard Besman, 2024). One of those songs being Boogie chillen’, this was Johns first big hit and was huge success in the blues community and was able to quit his job in a factory and focus on his music instead of it just being a hobby (Artist: Bernard Besman | SecondHandSongs, n.d.). Even though Bennie wasn’t in the record business for long being he left the industry in the early 50’s he was a big influence in John’s career and kickstarted the biggest blues musician.

The Beatles have been influenced on a lot of music throughout their career, but they influenced Dave Grohl to be the musician he is(Crystal Bell, 2012). Grohl got his influence to play the guitar was with the Beatles song book and fell in love with rock and roll from the Beatles listening to hey Jude. This would also help him bond with Kurt Cobain with there love for John and Paul bringing them closer in Nirvana(Tim Coffman, 2023).

John Bonham the drummer for Led zeppelin had a big influence on how Dave Grohl played his drums and how he practised. Grohl would try to copy how he played and emulate his swing (Krol. 2021), growing into his own form of drumming by grabbing his influences beat and rhythm making it his own. Having him as Dave’s influence shows how mature he is as a drummer not hitting it as hard as you can and showing off makes someone a good drummer. He evolves from this with making his rhythm and keeping the groove in the song, that’s what makes a good drummer (Jack Whatley, 2021).

The way Neil influenced Dave was getting him to pick up sticks and start playing, Neil being part of the biggest prog rock band and iconic drumming helped Dave start drumming(Jack Whatley, 2022). Grohl hearing Rush’s album 2112 when he was young was when he wanted to start drumming hearing Niels drumming getting him to hear his style of drumming and listens to music differently and always listening to what the drummer says in the song(Jack Whatley, 2022). Grohl through his music shows the drummer being heard among everything and being the main focus of how he plays.
