Susan B. Anthony was a prominent American suffragist and civil rights activist who campaigned for giving women the right to vote. She was born on February 15, 1820 to Quaker parents who were activists in the anti-slavery movement. Anthony became frustrated with the way women were treated at an early age when her school refused to teach her long division because of her gender. In 1850, after reading Lucy Stone's speech from the Women's Rights Convention, Anthony was inspired to devote herself to the campaign of giving women the right to vote. In 1869, along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, she founded the National Woman Suffrage Association. In her weekly journal, The Revolution, Anthony called for women to be given the right to vote and universal civil rights. In 1868, the U.S. Congress passed the Fourteenth Amendment, which guaranteed equal rights to all citizens - making no reference to gender. When Anthony attempted to vote in the 1872 presidential election, she was arrested and fined. She retired from political activity in 1900 and died of heart disease and pneumonia in 1906. Fourteen years after her death, in 1920, women were given the right to vote with the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment.

https://www.britannica.com/biography/Susan-B-Anthony

Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani girl who demanded that girls be allowed to receive an education. On October 9, 2012, a gunman shot Malala when she was traveling home from school. She survived and spoke out about the importance of education. Her message was well-received and she was asked to give a speech to the United Nations. On her 16th birthday in 2013, nine months after being shot by the Taliban, Malala gave a speech at the UN. The main highlights in her speech were education and women's rights, urging leaders to change their policies. Malala also urged action against "illiteracy, poverty and terrorism"

"The extremists were, and they are, afraid of books and pens. The power of education frightens them. They are afraid of women... Let us pick up our books and pens. They are our most powerful weapons."

Malala published her first book, I Am Malala, in 2013. Her book became an international bestseller. In October 2014, Malala, at age 17, became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She was first nominated for the prize in 2013 but did not win; she was nominated again in March 2014.

https://www.biography.com/people/malala-yousafzai-21362253
