To the Anglo-Saxons beowulf may have been considered a model hero, and in modern time he would be still considered a hero but not in a realistic way since he is more than an average man, with his incredible strength and inhuman abilities. To me beowulf is almost like a comic book hero or a person out of a fantasy novel like the lord of the rings, with his fight with Grendel and Grendel's mother.
