Answer 2-3 of the following questions about your own elementary/middle school: 1.How supportive and caring were most of the teachers? 2. Did you feel a sense of safety from violence and bullying? 3. How connected did most students feel to the school? 4. Was your school culturally diverse? If so, did everyone feel welcomed and celebrated?

At my elementary school most students felt connected to the school because it was very small and we went through all grades with the same small group of kids. I think the teachers were supportive and caring, but I definitely felt the responsibility was more on the student than on the teachers to succeed

In many blogs and social media questionnaires, I praise many of them!
2) Outside of indirect experiences that I consider to be general parts of growing up, such as gossip and occasional drama between friends, I felt totally safe from actual bullying.
3) We did many activities and there were many opportunities to be collaborative, but the overall climate was competitive. Being in the separated gifted program- the competitive spirit was even more set in place.
4) Due to where I grew up, my school was not at all culturally diverse.

My elementary school teachers were mostly rigid, desks in rows, by the textbook kind of teachers. Typical of the era. Since it was in rural Wisconsin it was not diverse--probably 99% white. There was only one African American girl in our school. She had many friends and people always wanted to be with her. Students with disabilities were not included in our school--certainly not a lot of "least restrictive environment" going on at the time.
