IMPORTANT INFO:

There were three causes of the French Revolution. These three causes were class ware fare, people hated the absolute Monarchy, and lastly the economy was a hot mess. Everyone was broken up into three estates. the first on was made up by the Clergy, the second estate was made up by the Nobility, mean while the third estate was made up by the majority of the French citizens also known as the peasants . The first two estates were exempt from having to pay taxes. For this reason and many more, the third estate wanted to change the Estate General voting system. Each estate only had one vote, because of this the first two estates were always able to outvote the third estate. During this time there was something called the Tennis Court Oath, this was just a meeting held at an outdoor tennis court during the time of June 1789. The third estate held this meeting with hopes to some day make a change. They ended up making a new constitution.

The storming of the Bastille came about around July 14, 1789. The French Revolution wasn't all bad though. on July 4th they celebrated their Independence like the US did and still does. This holiday was first celebrated in the year of 1776.

-Imani Blye
