Do you agree with the future projected economic growth?

Is Dan Ariely right, that we would like growth but do we want it for everyone? Think about economic growth means and how it relates to scarcity?

I agree because the countries today leading the charts eventually will fall in economic activity due to the decreasing amount of manufactoring. Dan Ariely is right because people don't want others to be greater than them, so this means that we approve growth but not for the better of others. If the economy grows, more items are needed to continue the growth. Since there is scarcity there is only so much items available to us that we can't continue growing without it.

I agree with the projected economic growth for the future; without a high work ethic and production rate within the United States I believe that its GDP will decrease. India and China are quickly emerging as economic powers, and much of the US's success rests in these foreign countries. They have the resources and drive to see economic growth. I think that Dan Ariely's ideas of our desire for equality are right; there is a gap between what is true, what we think is true, and what we want to be true. Countries don't want everyone to grow economically because it would limit their own abilities and development.

I agree with the future projected economic growth because a country like China should see an increase since it is innovative and has motivated workers. The USA should have a decrease over time because we are not as innovative. Even though we have billion dollar ideas like IPhones, we still use countries such as China to do our labor. I believe that Dan Airely is correct with his ideal because it would be difficult to have growth for everyone. The world’s economy is not perfect, so not everyone could have growth. Everyone could see growth over time, but the growth would not be equal. With the idea of scarcity, econoimc growth is difficult which was seen with the recession in 2009. Scarcity is also around, but the government tends to ignore it until it’s too late like with natural resources.

I do agree with the future projected economic growth. I believe that dan Ariely is correct thinking that we would like growth but not for everyone. He would prove this through the knowledge gap of the how much of the world's wealth people have and what they actually have. It was assumed that the poorest people had about 3 % of the world's wealth when in reality they only had about a tenth of a percent. People that have wealth would like everyone to prosper as well but are not willing to give up their wealth. With economic growth, there is a limit. The world only has so many resources meaning that continuous growth cannot go on forever. This is basically the idea of scarcity.

I agreed with the future projected video. I definitely think we're gonna see some new world players and as developing countries become more stable they will step up in economics. This may relate back to Dan's theory with equal distribution of wealth. I disagree with the last video. I think there are always ways to grow. I agree it shouldn't be our focus, but as our economy falls and rises, we can continue to grow and fix our economy.

The Tedx talk was interesting because Ariely was openly advocating for better wealth equality, but he opposed socialism. He started suggesting that many other things such as social welfare and our development as a nation are derived from wealth and spread of that wealth. Ariely's model was very similar to the fascist ideas of Mussolini. Though he did not exactly say the government should be involved in the spread of wealth, this was a focus of fascism. Everyone works to better the state and "people" of that state and everyone would be somewhat equal because there would simply be no poor people. This is why I do not agree with his ideas because despite fascism sounding good it forces people to do things they may not want to do. Naturally there are lazy people and driven people. If someone is going to be lazy, it's hard to change them. This is their decision and it's not society's responsibility to make them better. Therefore Ariely is wrong in his shared wealth projection. The future projections are correct. China and India's economy are export based and focused on employing better and more workers to provide for consuming countries such as the United States. They will soon surpass and possibly put us into a dependency on them. Looking fifty years ahead they will surpass us, but leading up to that point we have to consider nationalistic ideals. Will Western nations regain that idea of superiority and innovation that drove us to build the current world. Eventually, we might get tired of depending on China or India and might do something drastic. This is why the future predictions need to be highly considered in our growth as a world economy. Economic growth requires resources to fuel it, But there's limited resources. As China and India grow and produce more and more, there will be less and less resources. This could lead to wars between colossal powers, so we must look into better usage of our resources. The pollutants are a huge backlash to this as well. As economies grow more waste is produced and we have limited place for it to go. More physical objects could go to outer space but air pollution can't be dispersed like that. China already produces more air pollution in one year than the US does in ten. And as they grow it'll only get worse. This is how economics and scarcity relate.

That would also throw the balance off the economy as some people will transfur jobs and such. The limited resources will cause major countries that are dependant on large amounts of energy to slow down economically as the rural life style of undeveloped countries continues to grow slowly.

I do not agree with the projected economic growth from the video "Who Killed Economic Growth" because it suggests that because resources are being depleted, humans cannot sustain the same kind of growth achieved in the Industrial Revolution. However, I believe that humans are capable of finding new solutions to problems, and a lack of resources will not prevent the US or the world economies from growing. Additionally, I agree that we generally want economic growth, but we don't necessarily want it for everyone. Complete economic equality would be socialism, which wouldn't be an effective economic system. Global economic growth seems desirable, but it would also mean that other nations would catch up to the level of economic prosperity in the United States, which means we wouldn't be as powerful on a global scale.

Dan Ariely is right about us wanting it to grow but not wanting it for everyone in that we want to see the class we're personally in receive most growth, but if we didn't know what class we would be In we would obviously want it to be much more equal. Economic growth is based on scarcity because the economy can only grow with enough resources. If resources are depleted then that leads to borrowing which to debt which in the long run does not help the economy and so on and so forth

For example, India and China's GDP is a lot lower than the USA's but eventually they will rise to the top. I agree with Dan because we all want economic growth but not for everyone. We only have so many resources which we all want to ourselves. For most people, economic growth is seen as beneficial, but it also implies that more resources are needed to keep that up. Scarcity is unlimited wants but limited resources, so if economic growth continues, obstacles with continuing growth will be met as resources begin to grow more and more scarce. This would make economic growth hard to continue for the home country and everyone else.

Not every country or socioeconomic class can grow at the same rate, just as a resource can not be used by every country, company, etc. at the same rate without its depletion because of scarcity. In the same way, economic growth on a global scale is bound to plateau and eventually decrease as the capacity for economic growth on a global scale decreases. Despite our desire for fast, astronomical growth around the world, or even in a certain country, that kind of growth quickly hits the impassible ceiling that scarcity represents.

I do agree with the future projected growth. The United States relies too much on it's natural resources and does very little to maintain growth within it's economy. Eventually this decrease will lead to scarcity with the U.S, and perhaps even a need to import more than it already does. However developing countries such as China and India are utilizing their labor force by increasing education and job opportunities which ultimately allows them to create greater output than the U.S. The people of the world however, as Dan Andy said, don't necessarily want growth for everyone. This mindset explains the desire for people to raise their own standard of living at the expense of others, and a basic understanding that the top percent should have more wealth and the bottom percent should have less wealth.

I agree with the future projected economic growth. Every country has its limits. As others nations economically progress, resources will move towards depletion. Competition between each country will increase and global debt will grow as a great issue. Also, it is not surprising that the United States is unable to develop further due to the fact that they have not utilized their resources like developing countries have learned to do.

I agree with the future projected economic growth. Developed nations are bound to stagnate and decrease in terms of their share of the global economy. An aging population with low birth rates will result in a smaller labor force within these developed nations, capping the economic growth and development which can occur within these nation's borders. Though nations that experience an influx of immigration such as the United States, will be less effected, others will experience decreasing GDP per capita and growth. The beginnings of this trend are currently being witnessed in Japan and Scandinavian countries and will only expand to other developed nations. On the other hand, countries with growing and already large populations such as China and India will grow economically substantially as individual consumption and domestic innovation occur.Though the quantity of nonrenewable resources such as oil and coal will eventually be depleted, technology and innovation can yield alternatives which can be used to continue the progression of growth in these nations. While economic growth will genrally increase the individual well being of individuals, especially in developing nations, the wealth gap will likely expand significantly due to the inherent selfish nature of capitalism.

I agree with the future projected economic growth. Resources are limited and the USA relies on natural resources tremendously but we don't use our own resources. If the economy for the United States goes down it will eventually come back up when middle eastern countries can't supply oil or energy anymore. But for now China and India are both increasing the education of their workers and job opportunities therefor their economies are booming.

I agree with the future projected economic growth because resources are limited on Earth. Growth will continue until resources run out. The United States use their resources abundantly while other countries have used resources more efficiently. Dan Ariely shows that the population doesn't want economic equality for everyone because then there would be no competition between people. Competition and scarcity motive people to work and make a living. If everyone was equal in the economy, then the quality of goods would go down and poverty would increase.

I agree that with the projected economic growth, the US has its limits with how much longer we can go using limited energy sources, it's just a matter of time until it becomes true. I also agree with Dan on how we want economic growth, but not for everyone (although it should be) simply due to how limited resources are and how much more quickly we'd run out of them because of scarcity. Economic growth means lots of resources and it'll soon become a competition for them between the fastest growing countries like China and India.

Developed countries will be affected the most because natural resources are not unlimited so growth will diminish and stagnate when they're gone.

I agree with the future projected economic growth because it is inevitable that resources will one day run out. A country only has so much of its limited resources until they are all utilized in production. Also, the more economic growth a country experiences, more resources are being used, thus resulting in further scarcity in resources. Although I was surprised to learn, Dan Ariely is right to say that economic growth is to be expected, but that it is not wanted for everyone.

Yes, Dan. It is inevitable, due to limited resources across the globe, that nations will face scarcity as more and more of their population become specialized in various labors and labor forces. It is indeed true that the United States is stuck in stagnation, although on the surface our GDP per capita is significantly higher than that of other nations, and this stagnation is due to immense amounts of debt that no matter the economic intentionality put behind attempts to reduce the debt, our nation will never truly be able to experience growth. While our capitalist practices is a large portion of our maximized GDP, newly developing nations on the rise, such as Mexico, have heightening GDP's due to the extreme gap in where they once were economically to where they stand currently: growing and expanding; compared to the US, who, already at the top, will only fall due to a lack of spark to exponentialize our GDP and economic status. I also agree that economic growth should not be for everyone, because there would be no balance of economic power and resources. With everyone having the ability to buy resources, immense scarcity would result leaving the entire globe in a rut!

I do agree with the future projected economic growth, and that the GDP will eventually decrease. All countries have their limits, and all resources will eventually become scarce. Dan Airely is right in saying that we need economic growth, but not for everyone. He supports this through the real measurement of finiacial divisions vs the expected amount of concentrated money each economic class holds. Since a country's resources are scarce, productivity eventually leads to the decrease in available resources.
