Personal Reflection - Jarvis Tran

I found these Metro expansion projects to be very exciting and a great sign of the future of rail transit in the Los Angeles region. The two articles show that progress in both projects is going well and may soon be open. Both of these projects expand east of downtown Los Angeles into the San Gabriel Valley, the area I am from. After the opening of the Regional Connector, I am excited for the possibility of going from Arcadia in the San Gabriel Valley to Little Tokyo in Downtown, which was a trip typically only easily possible by a car.

The areas east of downtown Los Angeles is highly suburban and mainly dependent on the car for transportation. Transportation between downtown and these suburban areas highly favors the automobile, with highways serving as the primary connection between these two areas. Hopefully, these new projects will allow more people to use the Metro and improve connections with the rest of LA county. This projects reminded me of the Blue Line Trolley in San Diego. One of the motivators for the extension of the Blue Line was to improve connections between UCSD and areas north with downtown San Diego. The L Line extension and Regional Connector also hopes to also better connect the greater Los Angeles region.

Better connections and improvements of service to existing lines will hopefully address the needs of low income and other marginalized communities who in particular depend on transit to get to where they need to go. In an area as heavily car dependent as Los Angeles County, improvements to transit is vital in order to address environmental and social issues.

Hey Jarvis, I found the article focusing on the new A, E, and adjusted L line rail systems to be rather interesting. I'm also from Los Angeles, specifically the Santa Monica region, so the E line instantly caught my attention when reading the article, as now there's a better way to get from west to east LA. I like how the project isn't just focusing on the horizontal transportation across LA, but also the vertical and are working to make lines available to take individuals to Long Beach. Finally, I found that the integration of the L line with the A line to be helpful, and makes the process smoother. Overall, it's helpful that Metro posts scheduling and expectations for their riders to better understand when and how the lines will work.

Hello, Jarvis. After reading your article on the rail system, I found this to be a very interesting point. I am also from Los Angeles. When I found out that people in the LA area are starting to look at horizontal and vertical transportation and are working hard to update the lines. I found out that such a transportation system would be very helpful and the overall urban transportation planning system would be much smoother. Overall, the use of the rail system will allow the community to move into a more sustainable behavior.

Hi Jarvis,
After reading your article, I think the Foothill Gold Line Extension project is an ambitious effort to enhance the Los Angeles area's light rail system. This extension will improve public transportation accessibility and provide an environmentally friendly alternative to private vehicles by connecting Glendora and Pomona. Given the growing importance of sustainable urban development, it would be advantageous to incorporate environmentally friendly features such as green spaces, bicycle racks, and energy-efficient lighting along the transit line.
In conclusion, this project holds great potential in improving public transit and promoting sustainable development in the Los Angeles region.
