Lucy Knox’s letter to Hannah Urqyhart

A letter from Lucy Knox to Hannah Urquhart her sister. Two sisters married to different men and different sides. One on loyalist and one on the Patriots. There was only one success for one sister because she was on the winning side but the important thing to think about is that war can split apart family. In this letter Lucy expressed her feelings and how she felt only having her husband and he was always at war. Her sister and mother never talking to her , never sending letters or trying to get in contact with her.

His family suffered as well with grief and low income because he was there provider. When he said “If you don’t see me, I’ll burn myself” nobody even thought he was going to do anything. Bouazizi died 18 days after his self immolation January 4 2011.

Fighting for freedom is not easy often times, people are criticized for desiring a change. “Despite being criticized, he continues on; he does not entertain negativity because it will only slow him down”. One success was getting voting right in the 1960’s.

Tinker vs. Des Moines

Students were suspended for protesting against the government in Vietnam. They wear black wristbands to protest against the Vietnam government. After being told to take them off the students refused. The students took this to trial and it took 4 months to determine if they were guilty or not. On February 24, 1969 the students were proven not guilty, because of the first amendment stating that they had the freedom of speech.
