Atticus is the father of Jem and Scout and has a sister his kids know as aunt Alexandria. But most importantly his wife passed away when his kids were just a couple of years old.
Because of these events this has "Humbled" Atticus as a person, this is evident because he is a lawyer. (Lawyers tend to be humble.) He is the type of person who would help rescue a Puppy or a Kitten from a tree and he has very strong morals.

“He had guts enough to pester a poor colored woman, he had guts enough to pester Judge Taylor when he thought the house was empty, so do you think he’da met you to your face in daylight?
(Lee 624)

When Atticus says this he strongly emphasizes that Burris Ewell didi the wrong thing, this is explained by Lee's tone of writing.
This quote conveys the theme because in Burris's time of need no one was there to help him because he had annoyed everyone sooo much that the people of Mayomb could not have been bothered

“You were a little to the right, Mr. Finch,” he called.
“Always was,” (Lee, 228)

In this short quote you can tell a lot about Atticus because even in this frightful time Atticus was able to remain calm and protect the people that he loved. Even though Mr. Finch really did have to push Atticus to shoot Tim Johnson He still took that shot and thats really what matters.
