He says, "If I needed ropes I would use them." He is a professional climber that has been climbing over time and soon got bored of it because it seemed risk full but not enough. Chris McCandless doesn't do any extreme sports like the others, but he showed that nonconformity can be a good thing to get away from everyday life. He left the status quo and did what he wanted to do to lice the life he envisioned for himself.
