<title>The school labeled, segregated, and discriminated against the Mexican/Latinx students, in the classroom and cafeteria. The teacher linguistically and culturally demeaned non-white students, making them feel lesser. The cafeteria metaphor (and lived daily experience) served as a symbol of entrenched racism, but the ending of this piece had a hopeful tone, showing Halcon (the author) sharing his taco with another white student who shared his PBJ sandwich with him: &quot; We had crossed one border...there would be many more...&quot;</title>
