The first chapter is named "a monster calls", and basically sets the mood, and vibe for the rest of the story.  In this chapter, this is were the main characters, conner and the monster are introduced. This is were the transformation of the monster occurs, and the monster goes up to conner. Conner is really freaked, but believes it to be a dream at first. I think the specific chapter really hooks you in, and makes you want to continue reading.

I believe it tells us a-lot about fate, and how sometimes it weirdly works. Because in the end the witch was saved, and lives else were peacefully, even though she was a witch, and the king lived a good life, even being a murderer.

This theme is a really really strong theme, however, you may need to look at it in a deeper sense. Take for example when he was fighting harry. He was only fighting the bully because he was sick of being invisible, and sick of being unnoticed. Also, he began noticing he got no punishment at all, and he just wanted things to go back to normal. Hence he thought harry. This starts beginning to be relatable to some people, and children who just want to feel seen. This theme is very importent, as it gives the story depth, makes it more relatable, and more real. The one thing I find interesting most is that when Conor was full of rage so was the monster behind him and when Conor clenched his fist so did the monster at the exact same time, they also attacked at the exact same time. When the Yew Tree first came walking, it came after the nightmare, the nightmare Conor always had; the terrifying one. The reoccurring motif of 12:07 is evidently shown in both the film, and the book. For example, when Conor is at school, the camera is panned to show both the monster and big, bold, red numbers showing '12:07' on a digital clock.
