         <description><![CDATA[<div><mark>1. Chapter 24: Melinda doesn't return to her home after school as per her parent's request. This may be because she hates her parents.<br>2. Chapter 26: The options Melinda fills in are all very different. This results in many jobs she can take. She is probably going through some type of phase.<br></mark>3. Chapter 28: We are given signs that Melinda's family is falling apart.<br>4. Chapter 29: Melinda creates a turkey animal.<br>5. Chapter 33: The marriage is certainly finished. If it wasn't for Melinda, the marriage would have already been destroyed. The family has to keep up appearances to continue living together.<br>6. Chapter 35: Melinda's GPA is 1.7.<br>7. Chapter 36: Allusions to artists.<br>8. Chapter 36: She describes a tree. This tree is the perfect image of herself. The scarred side is a sign of a recovered wound. She can't get it right because she is unable to acknowledge her flaws.`<br><mark>9. Chapter 37: Heather is feeling insecure about her position in the Marthas. She probably doesn't have friends.<br>10. Chapter 38: Melinda passes out by cutting a frog. The blood reminds her of Andy Evans. Previously in Giving Thanks, she was reminded of Andy Evans when she had a paper cut while sealing an envelope. </mark></div>]]></description>

Melinda experiences freedom for the first time in a long time.<br><mark>5. Chapter 49: Rachel got sent to detention for speaking up. This makes Melinda even more silent. </mark><br>6. Chapter 51: Melinda considers Heather a real friend.<br>7. Chapter 53: Melinda is so desperate to fill the hole in her heart that she is imagining things.<br><mark>8. Chapter 55: Melinda resents speaking so much that she is willing to eat lead to suicide.</mark><br>9. Chapter 57: Melinda draws a cubist sketch of a tree. <br>10.          <description><![CDATA[<div><em>1. Chapter 65: "We are the Hornets, the horny horny Hornets!"</em><br>Whose idea was this?<br>2. Chapter 69: Rachel has a <br>asthmatic laugh. This is the first time we are given information about the character's voice.<br>3. Chapter 70: Melinda mentions her stages in tree drawing and reflects it to her own development.<br>4. Chapter 75: We are made aware that other people are also aware of what a scumbag Andy Evans is.<br>5. Chapter 78: Melinda's parents are irresponsible and do not clean up the lawn. This, however is to be expected.<br>6<mark>. Chapter 78: "Can you buy some seeds? Flower seeds?" <br>This quote is special, it shows a change in Melinda. Perhaps something related to trees.<br>7</mark> Chapter 79: Womanhood is spelled Womynhood for feminism, reasons unknown.<br>8. Chapter 83: Melinda rejects Heather because she is still salty about getting abandoned.<br>9<mark>. Chapter 84: Melinda tells Rachel about her attack, Rachel is in shock. Shock transforms into denial when she reveals who the culprit is. It is possible that Rachel may hate her more now, but with such a burden and responsibility off of Melinda's shoulders, she will likely regain some of her mental wellbeing.<br>10. Chapter 86: Melinda's Dad says something very intelligent.  He tells the children that if the ill branches aren't cut off, the tree will soon die. If Melinda keeps sulking in her PTSD, she will surely wither away.<br><br></mark><br></div>]]></description>
