Reasons number two is paragraph 6 when they state that because of the demand (which is because of lower prices) employment goes up with automation not down. My Last reason is what they state in paragraph 8 when they say "Computers create about as much jobs as they eliminate." This means that some specific jobs have grown faster and added more job opportunities because of automation. His third reason is fewer jobs as typographers and compositor jobs for desktop publishing systems, and a LOT more jobs for graphic design jobs for those companies. He uses examples of things we use everyday to get us to get his claim across. He gives definitely more than three reasons, but he makes sure to provide graphs and carefully explains his claim statement. in paragraph 8 he presents a counter claim to support his claim even further</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The author's stance on automation is positive because he states that automation could improve the economy. We see this claim in paragraph 2. He supports his claim by stating in paragraph 5 that the work force grew with a chart that shows occupation of jobs with "above-average" computer use has "grown substantially faster by 0.9 percent per year". The author also reminds us of the Industrial Revolution which created new innovations that raised employment especially in factories in paragraph 6. The author then states that automation can also be slightly negative but the positive makes up for it. He shows this with a graph that presents more graphic design jobs rising and replacing typographers as graphic design is more automated than typography. All of these support the claim that automation does not steal jobs but improves them.</p>]]></description>

The reason I made the claim that the author James Bessen supports automation in the argumentative text "The Automation Paradox" is because of the reasons he gives. In paragraph three, the author states that computers (automation) are taking over human jobs and are doing a better job at it. This reason that the author has given shows that he is not against automation, but rather is for it. Another reason the author gives to show that he supports automation is in paragraph four, when the author is saying that jobs with automation are growing robustly. A direct quote to show this in paragraph 4 is, "Employment for paralegals and lawyers has grown robustly." Again, above he says that computers have taken over the jobs of paralegals and lawyers basically saying, since automation is included in these jobs more people are likely to work there. In conclusion, to end my claim and statement the author James Bessen does support automation and encourages it in jobs.</p>]]></description>

The author's first reason  is that computer are more accurate than humans.  According to the text in paragraph 3 states, " In one study, software correctly found 95 percent of the relevant documents, while humans identified only 51 percent". This explains how automation is doing certain jobs which can save humans a certain amount of time in finding things. The authors second reason is that jobs with automation show a growth in employment opportunities.  According to the text in paragraph 6, " So when demand increases enough in response to lower prices, employment goes up with automation, not down." This explains how the automation in banks helped employment go up in banks and it was helpful involving jobs in banks. The authors third reason is the increase in demand for a product increases job opportunities. According to the text, Likewise, ATMs made it cheaper to operate bank branches, so banks dramatically increases their number of offices." This explains how with the demand of more product the bank was able to open up more job opportunities.  All of these reasons support the claim that automation dosent steal jobs but is beneficial.</p>]]></description>

The second piece of reasoning is in paragraph six and states automation reduces the cost of a product or service and these lower prices attract more customers, and the final price of reasoning is in paragraph 8 and says as much as it can help jobs, it also gets rid of them, but automation eliminates about the same amount of jobs that it creates, so it shouldn't have any really bad effects. The author also points out that while some jobs would most likely be replaced others are created and changed by the new technology.
