We are at the end of Unit 1 for this course and I see that it will cover a lot of information. I think perhaps I now see why this course is completely assessment based instead of part course work and part examination. There is just too much relevant information to retain and regurgitate in a two-hour exam setting. A proper analysis (this is research for my tutor and cc by the way) of our understanding would not be easily observed without putting us through the process of learning to conduct our own research. This is one of those learn by doing the field work kind of classes. I typically rely on the classes that are 100% assessment to keep my GPA healthy as I have found that they are more easily managed. I can tell already that this will be a class where I really must work just as hard as if I were sitting an exam. (I tend to get exam nerves and sometimes blank out).

Although we learned the beginning concepts of what research is and entails as it relates to business uses and practices, I have already noticed that what I learned in Statistics will factor heavily in understanding some of the data compilation and analyses. *Special note to self, please review and refresh what I learned in ECON1005, end note*.

Unit 2 I have not too long completed posting my final response for this week’s graded discussion assignment and I can honestly say the term literature review had me very confused until last Friday night. We were given some instructions based on information from the unit reading but I must not have understood the concept as they were intended. Suffice to say I was scrambling down to the last wire to locate the appropriate article to base my reflection on while trying to diffuse mounting frustration. A literature review is not a third-party review of someone else’s work as I was thinking but rather an analysis of information gathered used to form conclusions to a person’s theory or research. Somehow, I had lost and confused myself along the way but once I had to read the articles of my classmates to post my own peer-review, I realized my error and confirmed that I was indeed on the right track. All in all, I had a very stirring week trying to learn the required lessons and yep, as I previously surmised, there is a whole lot of statistics involved in this class. I also need to note that in the two years I have been pursing my degree with UWI, this is the most I have ever accessed the UWIlinC library. It is very comforting to know that the site is easily navigated and provides access to a wide range of scholarly published works.

Research Proposal Week

My week in review....hmm what can I say except, it was rough! I had lots to do school wise, personally and professionally at my job; which means my time was not divided as I would have preferred. None the less, I was able to compile a some what satisfactory research proposal and submit it with a few minutes to spare. Now I know it may sound like I boasted a bit about beating the time clock just now, but I'm really not. You see in actuality I am proud of myself. When the pressure was on from all three sides I still persevered. While it was not my best, best effort, I still managed to meet all my deadlines. And to be honest, if you ever had to pull magic research proposals from thin air you would understand. Because that process is crazy. Like it's seriously a lot. I had started early but still could not anticipate the amount of material I would need to covey just to get the gist of what I wanted to research on. This has brought further awareness to me and I had to ask myself, "how will you manage the actual report that is going to be at least three times the information?" So in response I realized that I needed to set a course to map out checkpoint times going forward if I hoped to have a completed research paper to submit at the end of this term. Meanwhile i also had this collaboration assignment that required my attention as well. (But that's something I will save the details on for another day)... See you in a few...
P.S. One has to wonder about the dedication level persons (i.e researchers) put into their jobs. Because if it were up to me, a lot of things would go unknown based on the significant time and work involved.
