Are the visual arts important? What (if anything) would be lost if the daily encounters you recorded were absent?

Yes, of course, visual arts is important. It is as important as any other form of art. Just like how music is a form of art that stimulates our ears, visual arts is something that stimulates our eyes and even touch. If my daily encounters of these visual arts were to disappear, my life would be much duller and I do believe I would become very understimulated. The visual arts surrounds me everywhere I go. All the graphics I see on my products and on walls, all the architecture and structures of walls and tools. To me, a life without any visual arts is a life with nothing in it, as art can be defined with just anything with structure and mass to it.

How do your daily encounters with visual art differ from the artwork you see in museums? How would the experience of museum-going change if the art you interacted with daily was a part of the museum collection?

My daily encounters with visual art differ vastly from my encounters with art I see in museums. In my everyday encounters, I walk past most things casually with me only give a small bit of attention to the artwork. The only time I give more than an ounce of attention to artwork in my daily life is if the artwork is something I find cute or cool. I don’t sit around and try to analyze the meaning of the artwork like I would do if I were in a museum. If the art I see daily were to be in museums, though, I think I would react in one of two ways. One, I would try to analyze the daily art more deeply. Two, I would go through the museum faster than I usually would as I would realize that I see this kind of art everywhere already so there would be no purpose in lingering on every artwork for very long. I think it just depends on what type of daily art work would be showcased as certain daily art is more intriguing than others.
