         <description><![CDATA[<p>Kentucky was involved in the Civil war. There were a total of 13 battles fought in Kentucky during the civil war. Soldiers from Kentucky served in both Union and Confederate armies. While the confederate army deaths remain unknown, there were a total of 10,774 deaths from the Union Army; 2,478 killed/wounded, 6,383 died from disease and 1,913 died of other causes. Kentuckians in the Union Army served in 45 regiments and 1 company of infantry, 16 regiments, 10 companies of cavalry,&nbsp;and 7 batteries of artillery.</p>]]></description>
