Some have argued that wearing school uniforms stifles the students' freedom of expression. Without school uniforms, students are able to wear clothes that express their hobbies and interests, as well as being more comfortable than the school uniform. Moreover, the school uniform costs alot to purchase and the students can just wear whatever they want that fits in the dress code without spending any extra money. What this argument fails to consider is that potentially dangerous strangers can easily wear any normal outfit and walk into the school, resulting in the security guards and teachers being unable to identify the suspicious person and can put the students' and teachers' lives in danger. Does that mean allowing students to wear different clothes is worth risking the entire school's security?

  On the other hand, other critics would prefer students wearing school uniforms as they do not need to choose what they wear every school day. The possibility of an individual being bullied or made fun of because of one's sense of style is highly likely and many students are afraid of that. Many people would not mind being uncomfortable if it lowers the risk of them being bullied.

  Some critics say that wearing school uniforms are essential and that security guards will have a hard time differentiating their assigned school students from other school students. There is little indication to allow them to keep out students from different schools as they cannot be easily differentiated. However, this security flaw could be prevented by giving students identification or other forms of identification to show to security guards or using machines that allow them into the school. This ensures security for both staff and students by only letting those related to the school inside.

Even if they might look respectable and disciplined, their actions may be the complete opposite of how they look. For example, there are some students who smoke or do illegal things in their school uniform. And wearing a school uniform may not reduce peer pressure and bullying. As some students may get bullied just because their school uniform may be old and shabby. For example, in the first Harry Potter book, Ronald Weasely was bullied by Draco Malfoy just because his uniform was a hand-me-down from his brothers. However, pride and self confidence does not come from the school uniforms but us as well. It is our own thinking and beliefs that allows us to be confident and have a high self esteem. By being allowed to wear home clothes, we can dress up and make ourselves look pretty and neat, we are also open to many different outfit choices other than always sticking to one, and being able to dress up everyday allow you to express yourself and be more confident and happy with how you look. Rebuttal:
However, this does not represent the feelings of the majority of the students. Being able to receive the freedom to choose the clothing they wear makes them feel much more comfortable in their institution which in turn, could build up school identity within in students  as they would find going to school more enjoyable. The different palates of colour that students wear might add new life and uniqueness in the eyes of the students, making everyday school life much more intriguing, fun instead of the same stale and boring colours we see everyday.
