London – the sordid playground of the wretched after dark. As the blanket of stars fall over the city, the pretence of decorum becomes obscured ; and every harboured secret comes out to play. The gamblers, alcoholics, prostitutes. Along with Robert, the tortured victim of his own addictions – all once locked away like a misbehaving child – begin to emerge.

He averted his gaze from the gentle glow of the street lamps. Though to most the serenity of light dancing over the ripples of the Thames was enough to stare in awe amidst the raucous London night life; for him it was like a rude awakening, intensifying the dull throb at the back of his skull. His face lit up in mild surprise with each successful step, as if the repetitive action of surpassing one foot with the other was an achievement in itself. The cobblestones beneath his soles made the challenge of staying upright considerably harder, as the young man swayed from side to side.
